(Exposition) This is Katie. It was summer break and she had just finished 5th grade. Her mom wanted her to stay at her Grandpa's house for the break. When she arrived at his house, her Grandpa had asked her to help him clean his basement. She helped put away boxes, pictures, and clothes. Then, Katie came across a rusty metal box.
(Conflict Introduced) Inside the box was a crumbled up old map. Katie asked her grandpa what the map was. He told her that a good friend gave it to him a long time ago.
Katie wanted to find this treasure.
The map had a drawing, cross, and a tree.

(Rising Action 1) First, she needed to find where the map starts. She went around her village asking her neighbors if they had seen these signs anywhere. She wanted to give up but Katie wanted to make her Grandpa happy. Katie put up flyers near her home showing the drawing on her map. She waited for people to answer her flyer. One day, a lady called her and told her where she got the map from. Katie told her she didn't know then, the old lady came to her house. Katie went to her home and the lady had told her that the drawing was from the Australian aborigines. These people used to draw on rocks since, they couldn't see their gods and they tried to draw an animal or plant as their god (Welch). These drawings had meanings and the lady tried to figure out what Katie's drawing meant.

The lady also said that these Australian Aborigines were the oldest natives on the planet and they go by a simple life. They had it timely done by the change of seasons and their generations (Smith 232). They believed in spirits led by their older generations. One example can be a Rainbow serpent. They also believe in something called dream time and it is when an old time of creation and nowadays Dreaming goes together ("Australian Aborigine").

The old lady then dug up a glass bottle and it had a piece of paper inside. Katie opened the bottle and piece of old paper and it read “You have found the first clue so here it is, a prince who hated pain and loved to meditate.”
(Rising Action 2)
Katie went back home and asked her grandpa if he knew anything about the clue. He said he had a friend who is a Buddhist monk and he thinks that his friend knows about the clue. Katie's grandpa told her that the prince's name was Buddha. Buddha became awakened after relaxing under a Bohdi tree for a very long time. He then realized that everything in life is connected and that the way to end suffering is to let go of things you want. He was a wise teacher who lived a long time ago. He taught people how to be kind and peaceful, and to treat others the way they would like to be treated (Mark).

Katie and her Grandpa go visit the monastery. Katie asked her Grandpa what this place was. He explained how it was a place for monks and nuns and that these monks and nuns gave their whole lives to Buddhism (Shelby). Katie's grandpa asked for a monk named Mark. One of the monks said that he was in the middle of meditating and that they should come back in an hour. Katie asked why the monks needed to meditate and what that was. The monk explained that in Buddhism, the people who follow this religion are asked to know about the world and themselves more. If they do this correctly, they will be awake. To reach this goal, one of the things you need to do is mediate ("Why do Buddhists mediate?"). He also told Katie and her grandpa that there are different ways of doing meditation.
