Angel Island was located in San Francisco Bay, California. It held around 1 million Asian immigrants. They were discriminated against and taken advantage of by railroad companies.


1954, The Supreme Court ruled that segregation was unconstitutional in Brown v. Board of Education. The court ruled unanimously that “in the field of public education, the doctrine of “separate but equal” has no place. The segregation violated the 14th amendment.

The Dust Bowl was a period of severe dust storms that greatly damaged the ecology and agriculture of the American and Canadian prairies during the 1930s. 66% of the families chose to remain in the area and battle the sometimes deadly dust storms. The dust was TOO thick and deadly to breathe in so whoever would get caught in the storm would die.

The Harlem Renaissance was a movement developed by African Americans during the time of the Roaring 20s. It was centered in Harlem, New York. This movement allowed African Americans to showcase their skill and craft to other African Americans through music, art, poetry, etc.

Ida Tarbell was known as a muckraker. Due to her dad losing his job to a monopoly scheme. She wrote a 19-installment series called “The History of Standard Oil Company”.

John F Kennedy was the 35th president of the united states. Kennedy played a major role in the civil rights movement and stopped a nuclear war from occurring. He was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas Texas.

Karl Marx developed a political and economic doctrine called communism. Karl Marx was a German philosopher. He played a mediocre role in the red scare.

Martin Luther King Jr. was a social justice activist. He believed in non-violent riots and believed that all races should be equal. He was a pastor, a vocal standpoint for African Americans, and a revolutionist. He was assassinated at Lorraine Motel, in Memphis Tennessee, on April 4, 1968.

NASA played a large part in the U.S. after USSR declared the launching of Sputnik. JFK's "new frontier" made sure that NASA got extra funding for their science and mathematics.
