The Swanson's were a small family who had lived
in a home on the outskirts of Great Britain. They
were one of the first English settlers who had come
to this new land called America.
While in America the Swanson's and their fellow
settlers faced many difficulties trying to adapt to
the new land.

While the Swanson's lived in New England, they
faced many encounters with the natives whom had
been living there during the time in which they
arrived.
There was no trust between the Natives and
families like the Swanson's. The Natives were
treated poorly as the new settlers tried to change
their customs.

While living in America, another difficulty the
Swanson's faced was starvation. This was due to the
fact that the rich had been inexperienced in things
like farming and were unable to grow crops.
Settlers, along with the Swanson's, didn't bring
livestock to survive off of and in turn stole from the
Natives which caused even more conflict between the
two.

The Swanson's were not accustomed to a new land
and its natural resources. One morning, Maryanne
Swanson was sick with a high fever but the village was
oblivious to the cause of her sickness.
Soon, many other settlers also became sick. Mr.
Waldorf, the village doctor, concluded the sickness
was caused from the unclean water.
Other sicknesses arose during the duration of the
time the settlers traveled in effort to become more
familiar with this "New World".

The Swanson's and their fellow settlers became
angry with many of the British actions taken upon them
like the Stamp Act, Townshend Act, and the Intolerable
Act.
Settlers were most angry with the Stamp Act
because it was a direct tax onto everyday goods the
English settlers used.
However, the Townshend Act had an indirect tax on
items such as tea, glass and lead.
Settlers were also angered because the King had
sent out British Redcoats in effort to take control of
the colonists by watching their every move.

As time progressed the English settlers became
adapted to their new lives in New England and imposed
laws in order to structure their newly found freedom
and way of life.
As Mrs. Swanson was out shopping for ripe tomatoes,
she had noticed a poster describing, what was said to be
called The Ten Amendments. She read as follows:

1- Freedom of religion, speech, freedom of the press, and the
right to petition the government.
2- Right to bear arms
3-Troops may not be quartered in homes during peaceful times.
4- No unreasonable searches or seizures.
5-No "double jeopardy" -- being tried twice for the same
offense. Forcing a person to testify against himself or herself
prohibited. No loss of life, liberty or property without due
process.
6-Right to a speedy, public, impartial trial with defense counsel,
and right to cross-examine witnesses.
7-Jury trials in civil suits where value exceeds 20 dollars.
8-No excessive bail or fines, no cruel and unusual punishments.
9-Unlisted rights are not necessarily denied
10-Powers not delegated to the United States or denied to
states are reserved to the states or to the people

Mrs. Swanson quickly returned home to share the
news of the new Ten Amendments, only to hear
that there had been more conflict between the
north and the south and their different economical
systems that led to political differences...

Watson, the Town Crier, explained that California had
just yesterday declared herself a free state
Taxes received financial compensation for relinquishing
claim to lands west of the Rio Grande and that this was
done by Taxes paying ten-million dollars to surrender its
claim without any specifications over slavery
The slave trade, but not slavery itself was ended in The
District of Colombia; and the Fugitive Slave Law was passes
requiring all U.S. citizens to assist in the return of the
runaway slaves. regardless of the legalization of slavery in
the specific state.

After the news of the many conflicts facing the new English
Settlers, came news of the salvation of America.
The Compromise of 1850
Though, after Mr. Baker, the town Philosopher closely
analyzed what he believed to be the effects of this so called
"Salvation".
He explained that the immediate peace between north and
the south was inevitable; However, the long term effects of
the compromise was of popular soverity and the fugitive slave
laws that will stir up unprecedented controversy.

The Swanson family was very excited despite the
controversy between the North and South, a new man
named Abraham Lincoln had come to town and told the town
that he was running for President of the United States.
Timothy who was now the oldest Swanson had heard a lot
about Lincoln. Word had traveled very fast from the South
and if he was elected would cause even more tension
between the North and South. This was because the South
had misinterpreted Lincoln and thought he would abolish
slavery.

Though the South had been confused of what Lincoln said.
Timothy's friend Oliver had said that Lincoln had only
wanted to stop slavery from spreading farther into America,
he did not want to completely get rid of slavery.
Abraham was very popular amongst the North and since
the North was very industrial based it had a higher
population and Lincoln was elected as President for the
United States of America. The South was in mass outrage
and created their own Confederate States of America.
Not even elected into office yet President Lincoln had to
control his states even more now that the South had
declared war.

The North and South had begun a Civil War by electing
Abraham Lincoln into presidency. The Civil War started
under many circumstances and the big one was that the
South needed slavery to sustain off of.
Though the North did not understand why slavery was
needed so much, and was against it. Before President Lincoln
was elected in, the battle was mainly metaphysical and not
fought out.
Since the declaration of war the battle had become
physical between the North and South and started at Fort
Sumter. Lincoln used the strategy of not evacuating the fort
which was on Confederate Soil.

The South then took this opportunity to fire upon the
Union soldiers and fort. In turn Lincoln used this to blame
the start of the Civil War on the Confederate States.
Fighting between the North and South continued on for
about five years and many people lost their loves fighting in
what they believed in.
After the Civil War the North and South were united
once again, realizing that they needed together to survive.
The South creating the produce for the North to
industrialize.

Now that the South and the North had become united,
the united states began to enrich in accommodations that
soon separated the citizens into classes. life moved fast as
a new sense of prosperity and freedom emerged at the end
of World War I.
Lots products were manufactured in mass-production
packaging. Billboards popped up all over the cities. New
technology became available for ordinary citizens and
because of this, the 1920's became known as the "Machine
Age".

Mrs. Swanson read in the news paper that President
Franklyn D. Roosevelt had came up with something called
The New Deal Program.
She explained to her family that FDR hoped to do
something called the FDIC which was the federal deposit
insurance.
Corporations and many banks were failing after the 1929
stock market crash which happened because of the 20s
lifestyle of "make it new". The crash continued into 1933.
FDR first instituted a "Bank Holiday" closing all banks until
they were in good condition to reopen. FDR hoped this would
achieve revenue which it did and sparked america back into a
working nation.

Another one of FDR's New Deal programs was the
FERA - Federal Emergency Relief Program. This gave
millions to states for work relief programs.
It was one of the first programs to provide state
assistance for the unemployed and their families. This
depressed relief funds to states so that jobs could be
created for those out of work.
Though it wasn't an absolute solution to the
unemployed, it helped people stay stable until the
economy improved.

Another was the WPA - Works Progress
Administration. Which was created as the largest New
Deal program. the WPA impacted millions of Americans.
This program lead to numerous roads, buildings, and
other projects were completed. this gave the nation public
works projects that would last a long time and it gave
people a sense of hope, progress and support.

Lastly, the AAA - The Agricultural Adjustment
Administrations. A New Deal program that restored
agricultural prosperity by reducing farm productions,
reducing export surpluses, and raising prices.
The AAA established the plan that would support
producers of basic accommodations for cutting their
exports of goods.
Its goal was to restore prices paid to farmers for their
goods to become equal in their pricing of purchasing. This
let on a period of stability for most americans.

Shortly after the United States had gotten itself out of a
national debt World War Two struck and started a whole
new cause of problems.
Timothy's sons, son; Oliver had gone out to war to fight
alongside the Allies: France, America and Great Britain.
There was many causes to the start of World War Two,
many of these were both long term and short term causes
which lead to the war.
Germany and the USSR were expanding greatly in Europe
and the allies had turned a blind eye towards Hitler and
Germany hoping that he'd be eventually pleased.
