Ministry: The life work of a religious leader

Crucify: an ancient punishment of nailing or tying someone to a cross and putting them to death.

Trial: In order to know if a person is guilty or innocent of a crime, a court will hear arguments from both sides during a process we call a trial

The ARREST OF JESUS

Many Jews at the height of Jesus's ministry and miracles thought he was the Messiah and the Son of God. However, Jesus's growing following scared Jewish leaders. Jesus was arrested by Roman soldiers with the help of Judas Iscariot, and he was put on trial for claiming to be the king of the Jews. Although Pilate the Roman emperor was reluctant to execute Jesus, he acceded to the populace's demand. Jesus was whipped, given a crown of thorns to wear on his head, and made to carry his cross to the scene of his crucifixion.

Bible Verse:

"Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole cohort around him. They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!' They spat on him, and took the reed and struck him on the head." (Matthew 27:27-30)
