Dimmitt Texas

Dimmitt is located South of Amarillo Texas. It is rural area. Dimmitt is located in Castro County. Most of the residents in Dimmitt own their homes. 

How did Dimmitt get its name? 

Dimmitt is named after a former Pennsylvanian adventurer Phillip Dimmitt who moved to Texas prior to the Texas revolution. Phillip Dimmitt was the captain during the war and always fought for Texas independence. Philip never got much recognition for everything he did but someone had decided to finally give him some credit for what he did and named the new county after him.  

Local Hangout

The residents of Dimmitt have enjoyed the local hangout of Sonic since the 1960s. At this Sonic the residents will gather to eat and spend time together. The Sonic in Dimmitt is one of the first places seen when entering the city. Sonic is the one of the 3 fast food restaurants located in the city.  

Dimmitt Independent School District

In the Dimmitt Independent School District there is 1 elementary school, 1 middle school and 1 high school.  The school mascot is the Bob Cat. The race and ethnicity that Dimmit ISD holds the most of is hispanic. Dimmitt ISD is a very friendly and welcoming school with the plan to help all students succeed. 

Dimmitt Murals: There are several beautiful murals painted across the city of Dimmitt. All of the murals are very different but share the same theme of rurality. 

Castro County Court House: This court house that is located in Dimmitt Texas is one of the oldest buildings in the city. This building was established in 1909 but, remodeled in 1936. 

The Olde Hotel: This hotel is the only hotel located in Dimmitt Texas. It is filled with many antique and vintage furnishing.

Grain Elevators: There are 4 grain elevators located in Dimmitt but in Castro County there are 8.  

Ozark Trail Marker: There are at least 5 Ozark Trail Markers all in 5 different states. These Trail Markers were placed in the 1920's
