Hyacinth are spring-blooming perennials. They belong to the Asparagaceae family, in the subfamily Scilloideae. They are poisonous, and handling the bulbs can cause skin irritation.

Iris contains 310 species. They belong to the Iridaceae family.
They are perennial. There is a living iris museum in New Jersey with over 10,000 plants.

Jasmine belongs to the Oleaceae family. It is commonly used in tea. Jasmine grows berries. They are native to South and Southeast Asia.

Kerria are in the Rosaceae family. They are native to China, Japan, and Korea. There is only one Kerria species, kerria japonica.

Lavender, or Lavandula, consists of 47 species, in the mint family, or Lamiaceae. It survives best in temperate climates, and is often used in oils, teas, cosmetics, and medicine.

In the family Magnoliaceae, subfamily Magnolioideae, Magnolias consist of about 300 species. They grow on trees, and are pollinated by beetles and bees.

Nerine belong to the Amaryllidaceae family, and most species are perennial, while some are evergreen. They are commmonly found in rocky habitats. They are described like lillies, but are not related to real lillies.
is for ORCHID


Orchids belong to the family Orchidaceae and have about 28,000 accepted species, which is more than four times the amount of mammal species. This family itself is about 10% of all species of seed plants.
is for POPPY


Poppies live in the Papaveraceae family, and are herbaceous, which means there are no consistent wood stems above ground. Poppies contain morphine, which is a powerful medicinal alkaloid.
