We're Off to Seethe Wonders

Blue Ridge

Hi! I'm Sammy the Squirrel!
" Oh Ali the Acorn, I don't think we're in
Alabama anymore." Sammy the Squirrel stated.
Sammy could remember it like it was this
morning, mostly because it happened this
morning. It was a hot summer's day in Alabama.
Naturally, Sammy wanted to cool off, so he and
Ali the Acorn jumped into the Chattahoochee River
for a quick swim. Out of the blue the current picked
up, and Sammy was to weak to swim against it. For a
few hours they were forcefully pushed by the running
water. When the river finally started to slow down,
they took the opportunity to climb out of the body of
water onto land.

Sammy looked around, and he couldn't tell
where he was. From behind a nearby tree a small
field mouse crawled out. "Hi, I'm Frankie the
Field Mouse!" The creature happily exclaimed.
"Do you know how we can get back to Alabama
from here?" Sammy asked, words full of hope.
Frankie paused to think for a moment. He then
continued, "Well there's only one animal that can
give you that answer. His name is...
The Brown Thrasher of Georgia."

"He, being our state bird, sees all and knows all. The
Brown Thrasher constantly flies around Georgia visiting
famous landmarks and the Seven Wonders of Georgia.
You just have to travel to the landmarks and wonders and
hope to spot him. If you do spot him, you have to call his
name and list one fact about the landmark you're at. Then
he will fly over and grant your wish." For example, he might
have been at the Chattahoochee River and you're fact could
have been that The Chattahoochee River forms part of the
border between Alabama and Georgia. Frankie explained.
"Sounds simple enough." Sammy said doubtfully. Frankie pointed
to the right and said, "The first landmark you will pass is Springer
Mountain." Then Frankie the Field Mouse sent Sammy the Squirrel
and Ali the Acorn on their way.

After what seemed like miles of walking they
finally arrived at a small wooden post. Engraved
in the wood were the words SPRINGER
MOUNTAIN. "Finally! We made it Ali, but I don't
see the Brown Thrasher anywhere." Sammy sadly
stated. However, they did learn that this mountain
was part of the Blue Ridge Mountains and it ended
the Appalachian Trail. As they turned around they
bumped into someone. "Oh, sorry!" The animal
apologized. "I'm Danny the Deer! Nice to meet you."
Sammy and Danny shook paws. "Well, you're very sweet."
Sammy complimented.

"Not as sweet as the Cherokee Rose. I've always
wanted to taste one. In fact I'm in search of one right
now. Although it's Georgia's state flower, I haven't
been able to find any." Danny explained. "I know! You can
ask the Brown Thrasher for the flower! He will grant any
wish as long as you can spot him! We're on our way to find
him right now." Sammy Exclaimed. "Well where is he?"
Danny asked. "We don't know we have to check all of the
famous Georgia landmarks to find him." Said Sammy. "I've
been searching the Blue Ridge all day and I can tell you he isn't
at Tallulah Gorge, Amicalola Falls, or Brasstown Bald." Danny
informed them. "Let's check the Okefenokee Swamp." Danny
says. The three new friends skipped off singing, "We're Off to
See the Wonders, The Wonderful Wonders of Georgia."

Next they searched the Ridge and Valley region.
They went to Dalton, one of Georgia's 159 more
famous counties. It was once the Carpet Capitol of
America. However, no Brown Thrasher. They
checked all of the remaining waterways including
the Savannah River, which creates part of the
border between Georgia and South Carolina. They
found out that there are no large, natural lakes in
Georgia, there are only man-made ones. From there
they checked the Appalachian Plateau and still had no
luck finding the Brown Thrasher.

The three friends ventured into the Piedmont region
next. They fist stopped at Stone Mountain. "Are we
there yet?" Danny whined. "Yep. This is it, Stone
Mountain!" Sammy exclaimed. "Oh look! A brochure!
Let's learn some facts in case the Brown Thrasher
decides to show up." Sammy said. "AHAH!" A small voice
screamed as the brochure was ripped from Sammy's hand.
The group looked down to see that a small porcupine had the
brochure and was throwing it out in the nearby trash can.
"I'm the Poisonous Porcupine of Piedmont and you'll never get
to The Brown Thrasher before me! I'm going to wish for
everyone's wishes in the world. That way I can get everything I
need to take over Georgia! I'm going to get you and you're little
acorn too! MUWHAHAHA!" The small Hedgehog screamed.

"OH NO!" Danny yelled. Sammy ran over to the
garbage can and started searching for the
pamphlet. Out of the metal bin jumped a small
raccoon. "Oh I'm sorry, I didn't mean to disturb
you." Sammy apologized. "Oh it's alright, I was just
searching for a peach. I'm Rachael by the way. You see i
just moved here to Georgia and I wanted to taste your
state fruit." "I know! You can ask the Brown Thrasher for
the fruit! He will grant any wish as long as you can spot him!
We're on our way to find him right now." Sammy Exclaimed.
"That would be great! Thanks for inviting me!" Rachael said.
"Your Welcome, and if you don't mind me asking, do you
know anything about Stone Mountain?" Sammy eagerly
asked.
"Well I've been here all day, i know a ton. My favorite fact
is that it is 300 million years old." Rachael stated.
