Harold was excited for his jumping competition. He had been practicing for this exact moment for three months straight.
Last night he couldn’t catch a wink of sleep. He attempted to ease his mind but couldn’t stop picturing his big day.
Before he knew it, the sun rose up meaning it was the big day. He watched other horses do the course and became anxious for his time.
Soon after, he lined up at the starting line waiting on the signal to begin. In the blink of an eye he was finished. As a result, he knocked over 12/14 jumps. He felt defeated.
As he was walking home, he noticed Holly in the field hopping towards him. She came up to him and said “Harold, I saw you perform today. It didn’t look good out there. You’ll never be able to jump as well as me. You see, if you were a hare you could jump perfectly, like this…”
Harold couldn’t think of anything to say back to her since she had made him feel like he wasn’t good enough to jump. As he continued walking he felt extremely down because Holly was supposed to be his friend, instead she made fun of him.
With his head down he kept walking, dragging his hooves hoping he would get home soon. He heard humming coming from above his head. As he looked up he saw Hazel flying around his droopy head. “I saw you perform at the competition. Keep your head up, you'll get it next time, Harold.” Hazel expressed. Harold's face lightened up but he still was down because of what Holly had told him.
“Thank you Hazel. I just don’t think anyone or anything can change my mood because of what Holly told me,” stated Harold. “Well what did she say to you,” asked Hazel. “She told me that I will never be able to jump as well as her.” “I’m sorry she said that but you know that she is a hare of course she can jump well. But I will talk to her since she hurt your feelings.”
