- In American football, the goal of the game is to get into the other teams touchdown more times than they get into yours
- The game requires 11 people on the field on offense, defense, and special team
- The field is 100 yards long, 50 yards wide, and the touchdowns being 10 yards each.
Knowing the Basics
What positions are there?
- On offense you have a quarterback, running back, fullback, wide receiver, tight end and offensive lineman (either a center, guard or tackle)
- On defense you have defensive tackles, defensive ends, linebackers (inside or outside), cornerbacks and safeties
- On special teams you have multiple positions from both offense and defense that make up special teams but you also have kickers, punters and long snappers
The Rules of the Game
- You get 4 downs or chances to gain 10 yards which is a 1st down
- Getting a penalty can either lose your team yours or gain the other team yards
- Offense is supposed to score in the other teams touchdown while defense is trying to stop them
Offense Gameplan
- To start any play, the center has to snap the ball to quarterback (or whoever is receiving it)
- On offense there are two option to move the ball, run or pass
- Running the ball can result in the quarterback giving the ball directly to a running back, full back, wide receiver, tight end or keep it themself
- To pass the ball, the quarterback has to throw it to a running back, fullback, wide receiver or tight end
Defensive Gameplan
- On defense, you have 4 downs to stop the other team from scoring a touchdown or gaining a first down which starts the downs over again
- When on defense, you have to tackle and stop the ball from moving, team with the least amount points wins so defense is important
- Before every game, each team will pick one or more captains
- The away team selects either heads or tails
- If the away team chooses right they can either decide to kickoff the ball first, receive the ball first or defer to the second half, same decisions if they choose wrong for the home team
- If a team defers to the second hand, they basically get to pick if they want to kick or receive in the second half
