To Mrs. Nardelli's class

“Hey, Laurie. I didn’t expect to see you at a school board meeting,” Mr. Schiller said.
“Hey, Mr. Schiller, The Grapevine is running low on ideas. You never know when something important will happen,” Laurie Saunders explained.
“Great idea, I’m excited to see what you—”
A booming voice came from the stage.

“All right, let's get started. Firstly, we need to address the new dress code policy created by the new superintendent: every public school will have a mandatory uniform. The policy will start next week, Monday, November 17th, 1965, for all staff and students. If the uniform is too expensive, we will give you a form, so you can pay the money off monthly. If you fail to turn in your funds by the given date, you will receive disciplinary action and a form to complete," the school board member announced.

"All members of Palo Alto public schools are required to wear the school uniform at all times during school hours. You may place an order in your principal’s office. The boys' and girls’ uniforms are 14.50 dollars. The boys’ uniforms include a shirt, pants, tie, sweater, belt, and socks, and the girls’ uniforms include a shirt, sports jacket, skirt, and socks. Student uniforms are different from staff uniforms. Talk to the school board members after the meeting with any questions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”

“What? Did you know about this?” asked Laurie.
“I had no idea that was happening; I wish we would have gotten the word sooner,” Mr. Schiller whispered.
“Well, I’m betting that many students and staff are angered at the thought of these new uniforms. I wonder what the point of it is anyway. What do you think of the policy?”
“I completely agree; these uniforms are unnecessary for the students, staff, and the public school system.”
