Emma’s solo in the concert was amazing. Her sound expanded over the audience and danced around their ears. She made playing the clarinet look easy. So easy you could pick it up and play a symphony.

Her best friend Jane, cheered her on as loud as she could when Emma had finished a solo. In fact, the entire crowd gifted her a standing ovation.

Good job Emma!!!
Jane swooped in as Emma walked off the stage.

I’m so proud of you, Emma! I can’t wait to see your next performance!
Emma was so happy to see Jane. They’d been best friends ever since kindergarten. The two never left each other’s sides.

They were like peanut butter and jelly. Or they were the cookies and yogurt they had tried in third grade. It turned out to be a great combination… Well, at least in third grade.

When Emma got home from the concert, she immediately called Jane. They did this every night.

I’m so tired. Today was amazing but it really drained my energy.
Same, I was working on my videos all afternoon. Anyway see you tomorrow!
Jane had a really popular social media account. Half the school followed her. Emma had never watched any of the videos because she didn’t have social media but on that night, she downloaded the app to see Jane’s videos.

Emma started watching the most popular video. Jane had completely splattered her shirt with paint and decided to keep adding on to it. It turned out beautiful. Then, Emma started the most recent video.

Jane's room
In the video, Jane was getting ready for school. While she was getting ready she started talking about red hair. Emma had red hair. And Jane wasn’t saying anything positive about red hair.

Red hair is really bold. I could never pull it off, for sure. I think some of the people at my school can’t either.
Was Jane talking about her? Did Jane not like her hair?

Emma left the thought in the back of her head. It caused her to think that Jane was as loyal as she thought she was. Emma slowly fell into deep sleep but her dreams haunted her the rest of the night.

She got to school the next morning but felt, too tired to function. Her friends seemed the same way. Emma wondered if they had seen the video too.

Before school, started Emma got a notification. Jane had posted another video. She was getting ready for school again. She braced herself for what Jane was going to say.

Guys, brown eyes are just so boring. Like, I guess they’re cool, but blue eyes and green eyes just make everything brighter. Like what do you wear with brown eyes? I have absolutely no idea.
Emma was shocked. Jane had never been so opinionated. She made up the greatest jokes When she entered a room it was like the sun had entered. Her smile could light up the whole world.

Emma had brown eyes. She was starting to get mad at Jane. But she was scared to tell Jane. She did not like confronting people. And Jane had been her best friend since kindergarten.
