Hi! My name is Tony. I am now six years old. After my sixth birthday, Mommy and I moved to a new town called Columbus for my first day of school.

You're becoming so big! Are you sure you're ready for first the first grade big guy?
Yep!

Welcome to the first grade!
When I went to class, our teacher Ms. Jones introduced herself. She was really nice and asked everyone in the class to introduce themself as well.

But when it was my turn to introduce myself, the class began to laugh at me and call me four-eyes and a nerd.
Nerd!
Haha he's blind!

I was very sad after, so I wrote a short story in my journal during reading time to feel better.

Reading is Fun

A New Chapter
Wunce apon a tim, a boy named frootloop
run up a hil and went to tha well for wata
with his frends. but when they went up tha
hil here wus no wata.
But then Ms. Jones came over picked up my paper and told me to pay attention. I didn't get my paper back until the end of the day.

When I got home I told mom how bad my first day was, and when the teacher took my story.
How was school honey?
Bad!

When she asked to see what paper she to see my story, she saw many mistakes in my spelling and punctuation. So she offered to help me rewrite my story to make it sound better.
This could use some work. Don't worry, I'll help.
I can't wait!

When we rewrote the story, mommy taught me when I should capitalize my letters, and where periods go. And then she told me to come back with a new story the next day so she can see what I learned.

So the next day I wrote a new story during recess. While all the other kids were playing soccer and jumping ropes, I was in the shade writing.

The story I wrote was about a superhero I named Word-Woman! And she had the superpower to correct any sentence in the world, no matter how hard it was.

Meye nam iz Kody and I lyk to eet pizaa
Meye favorit thing to eet

Oh no! This sentence is all messed up. This looks like a job for Word-Woman!

My name is Kody and my favorite food is pizza
My Favorite Thing To Eat
There we go!

When I gave the story to Mommy, she noticed I made fewer mistakes in my sentences than I did before.

Wow you're getting so good at writing! But there's a few more things I need to teach you.
Yay! I get to write more stories!
Over the next few months, I wrote a new story almost every day about Word-Woman and her adventures during recess.
