Let's embrace different cultures and perspectives :)
Also, a special thanks to Dr. Jamie Shenton for giving me the opportunity to write this.

In the small, peaceful town of Willowsville, life was as predictable as the changing seasons.

Young Hannah loved her town, with its friendly faces and familiar routines.

One sunny day, a new boy named Kai joined Hannah's class, his eyes holding stories untold.

Kai was a refugee from a faraway land, where war had turned his world upside down.

The children in school whispered about Kai's different accent and the strange food in his lunchbox.

Hannah, curious and kind, decided to sit next to Kai during lunch.

She learned that Kai loved drawing and had a cat named Luna, just like she did.

Each day, Hannah and Kai shared stories; she talked about Willowsville, he spoke of his homeland.

Kai told Hannah about his journey, a tale of loss, courage, and hope.

His words painted pictures of a beautiful land, now scarred by war.
Hannah felt sad thinking about Kai's lost home, but admired his bravery.

Together, they created a special project, a collage of both their worlds.

As their friendship grew, the other children began to see Kai differently.

They asked Kai to join their games and share his stories.

The class learned about different cultures, finding joy in new songs, foods, and words.

Hannah realized that differences could bring people together, not just pull them apart.

Author's note
The message I hoped to communicate with this book was of cultural awareness, unity, and acceptance. As an international student from Brazil in the U.S., there were several moments of disconnect where my family became my friends in a strange land. Putting this together meant a lot to me as someone who had to be an ambassador of my homecountry before. Upon reading this, please be open to the realities of refugees, immigrants, and their need to find a new home other than their first one.
