Buck missed his life in Australia. He enjoyed hopping around with his fellow kangaroos as they would explore their homeland. Buck’s idyllic lifestyle would come to a sudden end when he was trapped in a net and flown to Canada.
Idyllic: extremely happy, peaceful

Now he spends his days behind steel bars being gawked at by strangers. The man who captured him, Danny Rose, was a billionaire who collected everything he could from art work to fancy cars to animals. He would display Buck and the other exotic animals he had assembled at his so-called “zoo.” Buck was miserable and homesick.
Gawked: stared at in an unintelligent way

One chilly morning, one of Rose’s staff members left Buck’s cage open while he was cleaning it. Buck took advantage of the employee’s carelessness and jumped over him before leaping over the wall that surrounded the zoo. Scared, confused, and freezing cold, Buck decided to make a run for it.

The internet would soon be overwhelmed with videos of a runaway kangaroo at the side of the highway. Buck wasn’t used to the cold Canadian climate as his feet were becoming frost bitten. But he couldn’t stop now. He had to keep going or risk being caught.

Later that evening Danny Rose appeared on TV to plead for the safe return of his “beloved” kangaroo. To Rose, Buck and the rest of the animals at his zoo were just commodities. He saw them as financial investments rather than living, breathing. Rose managed to force a few fake tears before offering a one million dollar reward for Buck’s safe return.
Commodities: something that can be bought or sold

Buck had no idea where he was heading. He was lost in a foreign land in bitter cold temperatures he had never experienced before. After a quick stop at Tim Horton’s, Buck was on the run again. This time he was spotted by a pair of police officers who began to pursue him. But the roads were very icy that day and the police vehicle slid off the road into a ditch.

Fabian Leonard was a former Olympic boxer for Canada who ran a local gym. Unfortunately his gym was struggling to pay the rent on time. Fabian had discovered a promising young fighter named Bakari Oscan. He had put together an impressive winning streak and was in line for a title bout. A big win by Bakari could save the gym financially. However during a routine workout, Bakari hurt his shoulder and would be out of action for quite a while.

Outside the gym, Fabian heard a loud thud. When he looked out the window he saw his former sparring partner, Mateo Matias laid out. He had been knocked out cold by Buck. The kangaroo thought Mateo was trying to capture him and so he socked him with a big left hook. This gave Fabian an idea. He opened the door and beckoned for Buck to come inside where it was warm.
Beckoned: to encourage someone to come nearer

There was nothing in the rule book about the fighters having to be human. Perhaps Fabian could find a loophole that would allow for Buck to box in the ring. Fabian was desperate and it would take a miracle for him to save his gym. Maybe Buck would be that miracle.
