The ____________________________ family had a barn. It was red with white trim. There were no animals living in the barn. The grandfather showed his niece and nephew a book with pictures about how him and thier father took care of the farm.
They saw pictures of horses.
Pictures of sheep and goats.
They saw pictures of pigs.
Pictures of cows.
Pictures of chickens.
They saw pictures of the fruit trees and vegetable gardens.
Then they saw pictures of the workers and what they had to do to get food prepared so they could give and sell.
They saw pictures of how the sheep's fur was sheered and spun to make yarn.
Then the cotton that was picked to make the thread.
My brother asked if we could go look around on the farm. I wanted to go too. He took us to the shops on the property. We saw all the things, machines, and tools that were used to make yarn and thread.
My grandparents showed us clothes and linens made from that time.
"What happened to everyone on the farm?" said the grandson.
"Your father did not want to be a farmer and I had to sell everything," said the grandfather.
My brother and I walked with our grandparents to look at the empty barn.
"Your dad had a favorite horse named Gladdy. One year he would ride it almost every morning." said the grandfather. There was a large picture of him on his horse hanging on the barn wall.
There were other pictures of him and Grandpa out in the snow with the horses and a wagon.
My brother that night when we were going to sleep had an idea. He wanted to celebrate Christmas in the barn. Christmas was coming in three weeks. He knew he had to get permission.
"We can make ornaments for the tree," the sister said.
The first thing we did when we woke up was to ask our Uncle if he could help us make Christmas ornaments.
Our Uncle asked, "What kind?"
"Barn animals!" his nephew said.
"Decorative balls!" his niece said.
"Snowflakes!" his niece said.
"And we need colorful Christmas lights!" the nephew said.
Our Uncle found felt patterns of barn animals and helped us sew them.
Our Uncle brought balls and we decorated.
He also found Christmas lights in the attic and replaced the bulbs that did not work.
We made the snowflakes with beads and wire.
"What about a reef and ribbons?" his nephew said.
My Uncle helped us make a reef and we put pine cones on it and ribbons.
We decided to put a star on top of the tree that he found in the attic.
Our father bought the Christmas tree into the house. "Wait!" my brother said. "Can we have Christmas in the barn?" he asked.
