In the little Texas town of Boerne, there wandered a cowboy ghost named Boo. He made his home in a quiet cave, one so mysterious it didn’t even have a name.

The Cave Without A Name

Boo only came out at night, since the townspeople were afraid of him. But what they didn’t know was that Boo was a friendly ghost who loved to help others. One evening, while riding his horse under the moonlight, Boo met a new friend—Andy, an armadillo from the town of Amarillo. Andy was lost and trying to find his way back home. Boo quickly sprang into action, ready to help his new friend on the journey.

Boo says, " Hop on little fella and let's get you home."

So on a warm summer night, Andy and Boo began their adventure across the West Texas plains and up to Amarillo.

They galloped through the night beneath the bright Texas stars. Boo began to worry—where would they rest once the daylight came? Just then, along swooped a new friend, Betty the Bat from Bracken Cave. She kindly offered her cave as a safe place to stay. Grateful and excited, the three new friends set off together toward Bracken Cave.

As the three friends set off on their trip, the wind began to blow—whoosh, whoosh! Suddenly, a big Texas dust storm swirled around them, twirling like a giant spinning top. When the dust finally settled, Boo and Andy looked around…but Betty the Bat was missing! Boo and Andy felt sad, because Betty was the one who knew the way to Amarillo.

As Boo and Andy brushed the dust from their boots and hats, they suddenly heard a sound: “Ssssooo…what brings y’all to Abilene?” They looked up in surprise and saw a rattlesnake smiling kindly. “I’m Ronnie,” he said with a tip of his tail.

Boo explained to Ronnie all about their adventure and how they were trying to find their friend Betty. Ronnie nodded and said, “Oh, Betty? I know her! She’s having a late-night snack of Texas BBQ with my friend, Sylvia the snake.”

Oh Betty, I know her. She is having Texas BBQ with my friend, Sylvia the snake.

Boo, Andy, and Ronnie all hopped onto the horse and trotted off toward the BBQ pit. When they arrived, they were so happy to find Betty waiting for them! But their big dust storm adventure had taken so long that the sun was almost ready to rise. The friends knew they needed to find a cozy cave where they could rest for the day.
