Meet Sparkly, the wise and magical butterfly.
Today, Sparkly is going to tell us an amazing story about how butterflies come to be.
Activity:
Interactive Task: Ask the children to say "Hello" to Sparkly and predict what the story might be about.
Question: "What do you think Sparkly will teach us today?"
Once upon a time, in a green, leafy garden, there lived a little caterpillar named Sparkly.
Sparkly loved to munch on the enchanted leaves all day long. He was always hungry!
Activity:
Interactive Task: Provide paper leaves and ask the children to "feed" Sparkly by placing the leaves in front of a picture of Sparkly.
Question: "How many leaves does Sparkly eat?"
One sunny morning, Sparkly felt something strange.
His skin felt tight, and he was very sleepy.
It was time for a magical nap!
Activity:
Interactive Task: Have the children act out how they feel when they are very sleepy, mimicking Sparkly.
Question: "Can you show me how Sparkly feels when he is very sleepy?"
One day, the cocoon started to shake.
Sparkly was ready to come out and see the world again!
Activity:
Interactive Task: Have the children shake a small box gently to mimic the cocoon shaking.
Question: "Can you gently shake the box like the cocoon shaking?"
"Let's talk about the chrysalis stage of a butterfly. After eating lots of leaves, the caterpillar is ready to become a chrysalis. The caterpillar finds a safe place and makes a shell around itself. This shell is called a chrysalis. It looks like it is sleeping, but inside, it is changing.
Slowly, Sparkly emerged from the cocoon. He looked different.
He had magical wings!
Activity:
Interactive Task: Provide paper wings and ask the children to decorate them with glitter and colors, then attach them to a Sparkly cutout.
Question: "What colors will you choose for Sparkly's wings?"
"Guess what happens after a caterpillar munches lots of leaves? It gets ready for a big change! It finds a cozy spot and wraps itself in a shell called a chrysalis. It might look like it's just sleeping, but it's actually very busy inside.
This is a magic time for the caterpillar because it's turning into a butterfly! We can't see what's happening inside the chrysalis—it's a secret transformation. But when it's done, surprise! Out comes a beautiful butterfly, ready to spread its wings and fly."
Sparkly's wings were dry.
He fluttered them and soared into the sky for the first time!
Activity:
Interactive Task: Encourage the children to pretend they are butterflies and flutter around the room.
Question: "How would you fly if you were Sparkly?"
