At-bat

A player's turn to hit.

The goal of an at-bat is to reach base and safely score a run for your team

Baseball

 Is a ball game played by two separate teams on a diamond-shaped circuit of four bases. With the objective being to score more runs then the other team

Catcher

The catcher is responsible for catching the pitches thrown by the pitcher that are not hit by the batter. The catcher is also responsible for throwing out runners trying to steal the bases

Fun Fact: Yadier Molina holds the record for most runners thrown out by a catcher. 

Double Play

Any defensive play where the defenders put two people out 

Extra-base hit

A base hit that allows the batter to advance to second, third, or home plate. Extra-base hits only happen if there are no errors from the defense on the batter's base hit. 

Fly ball

A baseball hit high into the air

Ground ball 

A batted baseball that rolls or bounces on the ground 

Home run

A hit that allows the batter to make a complete circuit of the bases without stopping, scoring a run for your team

Inning 

The format of baseball. Teams alternate on offense and defense where there are 3 outs for the offensive team. Innings are made up of two separate halves

Jump

an educated guess at where the ball will be hit(defense). A good jump would be timing when the pitcher pitches the ball and successfully stealing the next base without getting put out by the catcher

Knuckleball

a slower pitch that has almost no spin, it is difficult to hit because of how much it moves, not how fast it is coming in.

Line drive

a powerful hit that is difficult to field because it stays parallel to the ground.

A line drive is widely considered to be the best way to hit the ball

 Mound

The little Hill the pitcher throws the ball from is called the mound 

No-hitter

A game in which the pitcher(s) don't allow a single baserunner the entire nine-inning game is recorded as a no-hitter for the pitcher(s)

Outfield

The field of specifically trimmed grass beyond the infield is called the outfield 

Pitcher

The player who throws or pitches the baseball from the mound toward the catcher behind home plate

Quick pitch 

A quick pitch is when the pitch is made before the batter is set and ready in the batter's box
