Unlike normally developing individuals, mental, vision, hearing, with physical disabilities, language and speech disorders, attention deficit and people with hyperactivity problems, learning difficulties, autism or giftedness

1 billion disabled individuals live in the world

According to OECD-EU and Turkey data, approximately 15% of the world population consists of disabled individuals. In other words, there are 1 billion disabled people in the world. Therefore, they are described as the “largest minority” in the world.( Fatma/ EmirhanZeki)

Obstacle Types

Obstacle Types; They are divided into eight groups as mentally disabled, hearing impaired, visually impaired, orthopedically disabled, language and speech disabled, those with mental and emotional diseases, those with chronic diseases, and those with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder.( Ahmet Tahsin / Sevda)

Mental illness is a general term for a group of illnesses that affect the mind or brain. These illnesses, which include bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, anxiety and personality disorders, affect the way a person thinks, feels and acts.

A person with a mental health condition may experience difficulty concentrating, which can sometimes be a result of medication. Try to avoid overly stressful situations wherever possible so that their condition is not exacerbated. (Alessandra & Roberta / Italy)

Hearing Impaired: A person who has complete or partial hearing loss in one or both ears. People who use hearing aids also fall into this group.

The term "hearing impaired" is often used to describe people with any degree of hearing loss, from mild to profound, including those who are deaf and those who are hard of hearing.

Visually Impaired: A person who has complete or partial vision loss or impairment in one or both eyes. People who use eye prosthesis along with vision loss, color blindness and night blindness (chicken black) are also included in this group.( Derya)

Orthopedically Disabled: A person with inadequacy, deficiency and loss of function in the musculoskeletal system. Shortness, deficiency, excess or absence in arms, feet, legs, fingers and spine; Those with limited mobility, deformity, muscle weakness, bone disease, paralysis, cerebral palsy, spastics and spina bifida are included in this group,

Language and Speech Disability: A person who cannot speak for any reason or who has a disorder in the speed, fluency and expression of speech and who has a voice disorder. People who can hear but cannot speak, those whose larynx has been removed, those who use equipment to speak, those who stutter, those with aphasia, those with disorders in the structure of their tongue-lip-palate-jaw are included in this group.(Eman& Besan/ Alaa)

Persons with Mental and Emotional Diseases: Persons who have difficulty in completing their daily life activities and maintaining their interpersonal relationships due to abnormal images in their emotions, thoughts and behaviors. Diseases such as depression and schizophrenia fall into this group.

Chronic Disease: Diseases that hinder the person's working capacity and functions and require constant care and treatment (blood diseases, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory system diseases, digestive system diseases, urinary tract and reproductive tract diseases, skin and skin diseases, cancers, endocrine and metabolic diseases, nervous system diseases, HIV) ( Ali& Selim/ Canan)

Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder: It is a disorder that begins before the age of seven in a child and is seen in at least two environments (home, school) for six months with symptoms of attention deficit, hyperactivity, hyperactivity and impulsivity that are not appropriate for the child's age and development level.(Dorina/ Cezar & Edina)

It is preferable  to use term or concept (people with special needs) as an alternative to the term disabled ,because there is general agreement that this term was used as a designation for group of people who cannot lead their lives normally without providing special care to them ,which maybe superior compared to the service  provided to their normal peers (normal) of the same age .
