This book is dedicated to Dr. Trust and all of the amazing critical digital citizens floating around the internet.

In a village far, far away, there were bears who ran and played. They were told tales of digital technology, each story scarier than the next. Digital technology, the elders said, could be used to track and sell where each bear traveled and rested. It even could be used as a tool to bully their friends online in an untraceable way.
The little bears were terrified. Why would they ever want to use digital tools and technology, they asked? The elders explained that digital technology could be used to support learning, connection, problem-solving, and more.
The elders explained to the little bears that to defeat the mean and scary parts of digital technology, they would need to engage with it as critical digital citizens.
The elders explained that digital technology must be used to inspire positive change and challenge inequality. They explained that each of these little bears were responsible for promoting this change and amplifying the voices of bears from all backgrounds.
The little bears began to engage with digital tools and technology and started to see the scary parts of it.
They were shocked to see little bears that they played with at school as the target of cyberbullying.

Fortunately, they were able to remember what their elders said and were equipped with the tools to become powerful, critical digital citizens. The little bears stood up to the online bully and shared digital resources to their friend who had become a victim.
Inspired by their efforts, their elders advised them to take their critical digital citizenship to the next level by engaging with broader political issues outside of cyberbullying. Their elders shared how proud they were of the little bears who contributed to a positive online social atmosphere.
While the monster of digital technology hadn't fully gone away and can be seen through the spread of political misinformation on social media, the little bears were now empowered to battle this beast once again with new skills for finding credible online information.
