Even though I have not had experience writing lesson plans before this class, I used to think that they were simple tools to help guide thoughts.
Now I think that they are guided learning tools that need to include a lot of detail to help communicate clearly.

Before taking this class, I did not know what Bloom's Taxonomy was and how it would be beneficial in developing objectives.
Now I understand that developing objectives aligned with Bloom's Taxonomy helps to ensure that students are learning at a higher level.

I used to think that students would relate to what I as the teacher had planned for learning.
I now think that students need different avenues of visible thinking routines, and assessments to truly understand the objective.
When I was coming up through school, I would have benefitted from different types of technology and assessments to help me better communicate what I had learned.
Collaboration with classmates, individual thinking, and different types of hands on assessments are all things that can enhance learning for a student.
All students can learn differently and until the student is exposed to different types of learning styles they may not feel successful in retaining information.

I used to not understand what an ISTE*S Standard were, and why they are needed.
I now think that having content standards, ISTE*S standards, and other specific course content helps to guide the learner and the teacher on what the focus for each lesson will be.

I used to think that assessment was only used to give grades and that they were required.
Now I think that assessments can be very helpful and very versatile. Some of my favorite assessments that I have learned may not even be a grade, but are geared to help the teacher understand what areas a student may need some more reinforcement in. Learning all different types of assessment has helped me better understand their value.
I used to think that a lesson plan was for the teacher to keep their thoughts organized. Now I think that lesson plan procedures help communicate clearly what is expected and helps to keep the plan on track with timing.
This was helpful to relate to the classroom as it is something I use daily as a coach.

I used to think that Microsoft products were the main tools used for students to complete assignments. Before this class, I had never used Google productivity tools.
Now that I have taught myself how to use them, I think they are a lot easier to see changes in real time without having to email back and forth when changes have been made. I also like the fact that you can access them on any device.
