Friendship Yarn

Hello! I'm Mia!

Have you ever been tied together with your worst enemy before? That’s what happened to me last week.
Hi! My name is Mia, and my worst enemy is a girl named Amber.
Last Tuesday in Magic and Potion class, Amber and I got into a fight about who got to read our flying spell. Luckily, our teacher Mr. Green stopped me from falling out of the wide window. He said, “Girls, you have shown me that I cannot trust you. I’ve had enough of your quarrels. The only thing I can do is this,”. Mr. Green pointed at my arms. Oh no! Amber’s arm was tied with mine— with Friendship Yarn!

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to become Amber’s “friend”. “ Your hair looks amazing today!” I said, pointing at her trademark hairstyle, golden curls pulled back with an azure blue ribbon.
“Thank you,” replied Amber coldly, as she tried to pull our arms up to the table to paint her self-portrait in art class. Then, she accidentally knocked a cup of murky brown water on my self-portrait!
“ Can you pay attention to what your hands are doing?” I cried, as I felt my cheeks burning crimson with anger,” You ruined my artwork!”
“ Can you stop screaming?” yelled Amber, glaring at me with her almond colored eyes. She sighed, “ It was an accident, sorry.”

We didn’t try to become friends after this quarrel. At dinner, I had lost my appetite, even when the cook served us delicious fish and chips. Even though fish and chips was my favorite dish, I couldn’t make myself swallow anything. It was extremely difficult to eat with one hand. Time passed as slowly as a slug, especially being tied to Amber. At 9 o’clock, we climbed up to the dormitory for bedtime. We had a “great" time untangling ourselves from Amber’s waist-long, blonde hair. After two hours both of us climbed into bed. We had to sleep together! The worst part was when Amber turned to her left, I tumbled off the bed, and our tied arms got stuck in the warm bedsheets. It was the worst night ever! I didn’t even get to sleep!

Hey!

“ Wake up, Mia!” Amber’s loud voice echoed in my ear uncomfortably, “We need to go downstairs to eat breakfast!”
“ Let me sleep for 5 more minutes, please.” I groaned, muffling my head under a pillow to block out the fiery sunlight flooding into the room. Last night, I barely had the chance to sleep.
“ No, we are late!” cried Amber, yanking our tied arms, forcing me to stand up. She dragged me to the mirror and poured a cup of icy water on my head, “ Are you awake now?”
“ Yes.” I stared at the mirror, horrified by my reflection. My eyes had dark shadows around them, my lips were dry and chapped, and my slightly curled hair was ruffled and tangled. Amber started combing her hair, while I wiped my wet hair and face with a damp shirt. Finally, we were both ready to go downstairs for breakfast, except that we hadn’t brushed our teeth yet. Stretching out my hand, I tried to grab the tube of mint toothpaste and my toothbrush before Amber did. Too late! Amber had already grabbed the toothpaste. The next second, I realized that we were both tugging fiercely at the tube of toothpaste with our free hands.
Give it to me!
