Tomorrow morning , Little Kelly's dad is getting on an airplane for 5 hours. He is packing his clothes tonight to be ready for the morning. Kelly sees her dad packing and tears run down her face.

Kelly goes to her living room where her mom is standing. "Why does dad have to leave us" she cries to her mom. Her mom takes a deep breath and looks at little Kelly with her big blue eyes and tears running down her rosey cheeks.

"Dad is going to work to help us pay for our food, house, clothes and everything we have. He is leaving because he cares about you and he has a very important job." Little Kelly's mom explains.

While Little Kelly and her mom are talking, dad is getting rest because he has to leave tomorrow morning.

Little Kelly frowns. "But our neighbor's parent's never have to leave for a long time" Little Kelly says to her mom. Little Kelly's mom then tells her about a girl she knows. Her mom leaves for a very long time when she goes to work too. Everyone's job is different. There are lots of kids just like little Kelly's dad that travel far away for their job too.
Some kids have parents that are in the military. Sometimes they have to leave for a year or more to keep our country safe from harm and protect our freedoms. This job is very important.
