In a land far far away, there was a special day everyone looked forward to. . . The Counting Carnival.

James strolled through the carnival eager to win a prize, but there was one problem He did not know how to count and add very well.
I will never win any prizes!

I can do it!
But James decided he wanted to learn how to count. He made his first stop at the Addition Arcade.

Addition Arcade
Hi James! My name is Allison and I am going to help you add. Are you ready?
Yes! Let's go!

Addition Arcade
Here are 4 gold coins. If the arcade game needs 6 coins to work, how many more coins do you need James?

Addition Arcade
1, 2, 3, 4. Then I will add 1 and 2 more coins. So 4 coins plus 2 coins is 6 coins.

James pulls coins out of his pocket and begins to count. He first counts the 4 coins Allison gave to him.

"Good Job," said Allison. Now James was going to the Carousel to learn how to count by 2s.

Counting Carousel

Now we are going to practice counting by 2s. How many horses do you see, James?
5!
Counting Carousel

Good! We can make pairs of 2 and then count up from there, let's give it a try!
Okay! 2, 4, and 5!
Counting Carousel

Wow, good job James! Let's go check out the number toss now!
Let's go!

Here is our last stop. This one could be a little tricky!

I have learned so much, I bet I can do it!

Here is your addition problem,
2 + 3. Now try to throw the ring on the bottle that has the answer.

Okay!
2
5
1

2 + 3 = 5!
2
5
1
James picks up a ring and tosses it on the bottle with the number 5.
Allison was very proud of James.

Thanks for all the help today Allison. I can't wait to tell my brother what I learned today!

You should be very proud of yourself!

James walked towards the exit with the biggest smile on his face. "Today was the best day," he thought to himself.
