我家都是从中国来的，但是我妈妈的家是从香港来的新移民，所以他们都说广东话。

My family is all from China, but my mother's family is a new immigrant from Hong Kong, so they all speak Cantonese.

我妈妈

我妈妈的名字是趙詩韻。她1977是在香港出生长大的。在移民前, 她有一个快乐的童年. 

My mother's name is Zhao Shiyun. She was born in 1997 and raised in Hong Kong. Before immigration, she had a happy childhood.

她和家人住在官居民楼。我外公在一家会计公司工作，但是我外婆没有工作。

She lived with her family in an official residence building.My grandfather used to work for an accounting firm, but my grandmother didn't have a job.

当时香港是英国殖民地，但是1997年以后，中国控制了香港，所以我妈妈的家想移民到美国，因为有很多机会。

At that time, Hong Kong was a British colony, but after 1997, China took over Hong Kong, so my mother's family wanted to immigrate to the United States because there were many opportunities there.

1986年，他们都从香港搬到美国的纽约。虽然他们一直想在纽约要过好的生活，但是他们一开始有一些问题。

In 1986, they all moved from Hong Kong to New York.Although they were continuously wanting to live a good life in New York , they encountered some problems at first.

第一是语言障碍。他们搬家的时候, 我妈妈那时才上小学四年级，不会说很多英文，而且跟别人说话常常不流利。

The first was the language barrier. When they moved, my mother was in the fourth grade of elementary school, could not speak a lot of English, and often did not speak fluently with others.

后来她不只从书上学，也从生活中学了英文。比方说跟同学聊天，看视频，听音乐，什么的。

Later, she learned English not only from books but also from life. For example, talking to classmates, watching videos, listening to music, and so on.

 第二是经济。虽然他们在香港住得很舒服，但是到了美国他们没有钱，每个人都要住在一个一卧的公寓里，很挤。

The second was the economy. Although they lived comfortably in Hong Kong, they didn't have money when they got to the United States. Everyone had to live in a one-bedroom apartment, which was crowded.

我的外公外婆都要工作。他们的看法是孩子的教育是最重要的，所以从早到晚他们都要工作为我妈妈和舅舅准备他们教育的学费。

My grandparents had to work. Their opinion is that children's education is the most important, so from morning till night, they had to work to provide for my mother and uncle's school tuition.

我妈妈看到外公外婆这么努力地工作，就决定她要好好儿学习，这样以后她就可以去上特别好的大学，将来可以给她父母更多的退休金。

When my mother saw her grandparents working tirelessly, she decided that she would study hard and go to a good university so she could give her parents more pensions in the future.
