Once upon a time in a small village lived two friends Konstantinos and Athanasia. Near their village there was a beautiful forest with many animals and birds and the two friends often went there and played.

Μια φορά κι έναν καιρό σε ένα μικρό χωριό ζούσαν δύο φίλοι ο Κωνσταντίνος και η Αθανασία. Κοντά στο χωριό τους υπήρχε ένα όμορφο δάσος με πολλά ζώα και πουλιά και οι δύο φίλοι πήγαιναν συχνά εκεί και έπαιζαν.

Fairy tale "The Burnt Forest"

So one sunny day they decided to invite other friends to go with them to the forest to explore and play. There was silence in the forest, only the children's voices could be heard, the animals were hiding in their nests, the birds were resting on the trees and everything was beautiful. Only a cool breeze accompanied them in their game.

Έτσι μια ηλιόλουστη μέρα αποφάσισαν να καλέσουν άλλους φίλους να πάνε μαζί τους στο δάσος για να εξερευνήσουν και να παίξουν. Στο δάσος επικρατούσε σιωπή, ακούγονταν μόνο οι φωνές των παιδιών, τα ζώα κρύβονταν στις φωλιές τους, τα πουλιά ξεκουράζονταν στα δέντρα και όλα ήταν όμορφα. Μόνο ένα δροσερό αεράκι τους συνόδευε στο παιχνίδι τους.

Suddenly they heard a car driving fast and immediately a big fire spread in the forest. They tried to put out the fire that was constantly growing. They panicked, realized there was nothing they could do, and started crying.

Ξαφνικά άκουσαν ένα αυτοκίνητο να κινείται γρήγορα και αμέσως μια μεγάλη φωτιά εξαπλώθηκε στο δάσος. Προσπάθησαν να σβήσουν τη φωτιά που συνεχώς μεγάλωνε. Πανικοβλήθηκαν, συνειδητοποίησαν ότι δεν μπορούσαν να κάνουν τίποτα και άρχισαν να κλαίνε.

Konstantinos, the eldest of the group, shouted to them that they were in danger and that they should call the fire brigade as soon as possible so that their beautiful forest would not burn down. They ran out of the forest with the huge flames chasing them.

Ο Κωνσταντίνος, ο μεγαλύτερος της παρέας, τους φώναξε ότι κινδυνεύουν και να καλέσουν την πυροσβεστική το συντομότερο δυνατό για να μην καεί το όμορφο δάσος τους. Έτρεξαν έξω από το δάσος με τις τεράστιες φλόγες να τους κυνηγούν.

Konstantinos, who had a mobile phone with him, called the fire department at 199 and the police at 100, and informed his parents. The fire brigade arrived very quickly and after a lot of effort the fire was extinguished.

Ο Κωνσταντίνος, που είχε μαζί του κινητό τηλέφωνο, κάλεσε την πυροσβεστική στο 199 και την αστυνομία στο 100 και ενημέρωσε τους γονείς του. Η πυροσβεστική έφτασε πολύ γρήγορα και μετά από αρκετή προσπάθεια η φωτιά κατασβέστηκε.

Our forest has become a vast graveyard of trees, cried the children. A living creature was nowhere to be seen. They despaired. Where are the birds in the trees? where did all the forest animals go? Are they lost? Did they die?

Το δάσος μας έγινε ένα απέραντο νεκροταφείο δέντρων, φώναξαν τα παιδιά. Ένα ζωντανό πλάσμα δεν φαινόταν πουθενά. Απελπίστηκαν. Πού είναι τα πουλιά στα δέντρα; που πήγαν όλα τα ζώα του δάσους; Χάθηκαν; Πέθαναν;

The earth, covered with black debris, lost its color. The sky was grey-black, hiding the sun, the moon and the stars. A huge cloud of thick ash covered the forest.  

Η γη, καλυμμένη με μαύρα συντρίμμια, έχασε το χρώμα της. Ο ουρανός ήταν γκριζόμαυρος, κρύβοντας τον ήλιο, το φεγγάρι και τα αστέρια. Ένα τεράστιο σύννεφο πυκνής στάχτης σκέπασε το δάσος.
