A section of the Earth that has specific plants, animals, and weather. There are many types of biomes


is for Crust

The Earth has layers like a cake. The Crust is like the frosting of the Earth because it is the top layer.

is for Detritivore

An animal that eats dead plants, dead animals, and decaying things. An example would be flies.

is for Evolution

When a type of animal changes over time. It happens when animals have to get used to a different environment.

is for Fracking

Fracking is a way to get natural gas. It happens when a fluid is put into the ground and creates cracks.

is for Greenhouse Gases

This is a gas that reflects heat. It gets into the atmosphere, reflects heat, and makes the world hot.

is for Homeostasis

Homeostasis is when the environment is happy. It is like Goldilocks when porridge was just right.

is for Indicator Species

An indicator species lets us know when something is wrong. It sends signs that the environment is changing.

is for J-Curve

This is a population graph with a line shaped like a J. It shows high growth really fast.

is for K-Selected Species

K-Selected Species have a few children at a time. They tend to survive at higher rates when young.

is for Leaching

Minerals get removed from soil when water washes through the soil and removes the minerals.

is for Mining

Digging into the Earth to find precious metals and minerals. Those minerals can be sold afterwards.

is for Non-Point Source Pollution

Pollution whose source cannot be identified. An example would be the tailpipe of a car.

is for O-Horizon

The O-Horizon is the top layer of the soil. It is also called topsoil. It contains lots of organic matter.

is for Pollution

When chemicals, greenhouse gases, and other things contaminate the air, ground, or water.
