Welcome to "Getting to Know the Authors," a storybook where we dive into the lives of fascinating individuals.
I'm Dorrina Cain. I was born in Kingston, Jamaica, in December.
Join us on this personal journey and enjoy the stories that shape who we are.
I am Karlean Hampton. I am a September baby born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Welcome to our storybook. I am happy to share my journey and adventures with you.
"Within our dreams and aspirations, we find our opportunities."
Sugar Ray Leonard

I hail from the beautiful island of Jamaica, specifically from the vibrant city of Kingston. Nestled amidst the lush landscapes and the rhythmic pulse of reggae, my hometown is a place where culture and warmth thrive. Growing up, I savored the island’s favorite dish, ackee and saltfish, a flavorful reminder of our rich culinary heritage. The streets of Kingston are alive with the colorful expressions of its people, where the cheerful greeting "Wah gwan?" echoes, inviting camaraderie and connection.

Lower Eastern Shore: Salisbury, Maryland

I was born in Salisbury, Maryland. I am the granddaughter of an oyster fisherman and the daughter of parents who were among the first students to integrate the high schools in Salisbury. Maryland is the childhood home of Harriet Tubman, who bravely led enslaved people through the Underground Railroad to freedom.
While in Maryland, be sure to hop on a boat and enjoy the best crab cakes the Chesapeake Bay has to offer!

I now find myself living in the charming community of Savannah, Georgia, a place brimming with rich culture and Southern hospitality. Nestled along the scenic coastline, Savannah captivates with its historic architecture, moss-draped oaks, and vibrant arts scene. Here, I have discovered a new rhythm of life, blending the warmth of Jamaican roots with the unique charm of the American South. The community's rich cultural tapestry weaves together stories of the past and present, creating a place that feels both inviting and endlessly fascinating.

Atlanta Ferris Wheel
"Peace Up, A-Town" Down: Atlanta, Georgia
From the birthplace of Harriet Tubman to the home of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I have found myself in Atlanta, Georgia. The rich history of the civil rights movement, the diverse culture, and the pleasant weather all mesmerized me. Atlanta is fast-paced, but you can still find family-friendly activities.

My family is my anchor, consisting of two sisters and a brother, with whom I share an unbreakable bond. Despite the miles that separate us, as our parents still reside in Jamaica, we remain incredibly close, cherishing our deep connections and shared memories. Our sibling camaraderie is filled with laughter, support, and endless conversations that bridge the distance, keeping our hearts united across the ocean.

Presenting the Hampton Tribe
After moving from Salisbury, Maryland to Atlanta, Georgia, I began to grow family roots. I have four boys and a husband. We love to spend time watching Marvel movies and enjoying nature trails and parks. During the summer, you can find us traveling in our RV up and down the east coast.

"Soulful Faith: Embracing Christianity in Life's Journey"
Faith is the cornerstone of my life, as I wholeheartedly embrace Christianity and the profound belief in God's presence. Through prayer, scripture, and a steadfast devotion, I find strength, guidance, and solace in my religious convictions. My faith isn't just a part of who I am; it's the foundation upon which I navigate life's journey, shaping my values, decisions, and interactions with others.
Together We Can Go Far

I find a beautiful and spiritual connection between faith and family at Elizabeth Baptist Church that enriches our lives. EBC is where we unite to worship, support each other, and grow in our faith.
Our church strengthens the bonds of faith and family, creating a positive and friendly atmosphere we cherish deeply.

My educational journey has been a testament to my passion for knowledge and lifelong learning. It began with a diploma in Early Childhood Education, laying the foundation for my commitment to nurturing young minds. This path led me to pursue a degree in Literacy Studies, deepening my understanding of language and communication. Building upon this, I embarked on a transformative journey at the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, where I earned a master's degree in English Language, enriching my appreciation for the power of words. Currently, I am on the cusp of another milestone, nearing the completion of my final semester at West Georgia University, where I continue to expand my horizons and shape my academic pursuits.
A Journey through my Education"

The Journey of a Life-Long Learner
I am a lifelong learner with a passion for education. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development at Bowie State University. After moving to Atlanta, I pursued online studies at Grand Canyon University, where I obtained my Master of Education in Special Education. Currently, I am at the University of West Georgia, working towards an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology. But my journey doesn't stop there—I am excited to continue my studies and achieve certification in School Media.
