Stolen necklace

Pauline went to the police to report that someone had stolen her necklace.
When the police arrived at her home, they found the window shattered and glass shards on the ground outside the house.
They also noticed dirty footprints on the carpet next to the window, but apart from that, there were no other signs of the break-in.
The police immediately arrested Pauline for fraud. Why?

As soon as the police got to the crime scene, they knew that Pauline had most likely faked the break-in. The glass from the broken window was all outside of the house, meaning that it had been broken from the inside.
Thief at sea

A Japanese ship was on its way to open sea. The captain went to oil some parts of the ship and left his ring on the table in his cabin.
When he came back, it was missing. He suspected three crewmates could be guilty and asked them what they had been doing for the past ten minutes he had been gone.
The cook said:

I was in the kitchen preparing tonight's dinner.

The engineer said:

I was working in the engine room making sure everything was running smoothly.
The seaman said:

I was on the mast correcting the flag because someone had attached it upside down.
The captain figured out immediately who it was. How?

The Japanese flag looks like this:

So it couldn't have been upside down. The ring was stolen by the seaman!
Tricky Pills

A contagious disease spread out between a kidnapper and his hostages.
The kidnapper decided to give his hostages a challenge: He sat them down with two glasses of water in hand (he gave each of them one glass) and gave each of them two pills to choose from. One of the choices would heal them, while the other would do nothing.
Somehow, none of the hostages picked the pill that would heal them, and the kidnapper kept getting the healing pill each time. How did the kidnapper get the hostages to all choose the wrong pills?

The pills had no medicine: the medicine was in the water used to swallow the pills (he gave each of them one glass without medicine).

Science Case

A scientist was mysteriously kidnapped. The only clue found was a list that had the name of different chemical substances in it: nickel, carbon, oxygen, lanthanum and sulfur.
The suspects were: fellow scientist Sadie, his nephew Nicolas, his wife, and his friend Nate.
The police arrested the kidnapper and saved the scientist straight away. Who was the kidnapper?

>Nickel
>Carbon
>Oxygen
>Lanthanum
>Sulfur

Look at the note carefully:
>Nickel
>Carbon
>Oxygen
>Lanthanum
>Sulfur
The answer is: Nicolas!
The Stolen Gold Watch

A man woke up on a Sunday morning and found that his gold watch had been stolen. He immediately called the police. The police asked each resident of the house what they had been doing that morning.

The wife said:

I had been washing the dishes.

The cook said:

I was in the kitchen preparing breakfast.

The gardener said:

I was busy in the garden, planting seedlings.
The maid said:

I was getting the mail that arrived today.

To Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt...

The police immediately found out who was lying and arrested them for theft. Can you find out who was lying?

The maid stole the gold watch: Mail isn't delivered on Sundays.
