A is for AmendmentAn amendment is something that changes a document.The Bill of Rights
contains 10 amendments and 17 were made later. James Madison
originally wrote 12 amendments for the Bill of Rights, but only 10 of
them were passed.

B is for BillA bill is a list of ideas or statements. The Bill of Rights is a list of the
freedoms guaranteed to us as United States citizens. It was put into
effect by the government on December 15, 1791.

C is for CitizenA citizen is someone who legally lives in a country. The Bill of
Rights tells of all of the rights citizens of the United States have that
the government can't confiscate. The 10th amendment states that the
citizens have the powers that the government does not have.

D is for DeclarationA declaration is a formal announcement or statement. The Bill of
Rights is an list of amendments that changes the Declaration of
Independence. The Declaration of Independence was written by
Tomas Jefferson.

E is for Excessive Excessive is when something is more than what it should be. The
8th amendment states that there shall be no excessive bail or
excessive fines from the federal government. The U.S Supreme
court has applied this amendment to the states.

F is for FreedomFreedom is the power to think, act, and speak as you want
without being held back by the government. The Bill of Rights
lists our guaranteed freedoms. Among these are speech, religion,
petition, press, and peaceful assembly.

G is for GovernmentThe government is a group of United States Citizens who
work for the people of the United States to keep the
nation operating. The government puts all documents into
effect, including the Bill of Rights. The government
guarantees the amendments in the Bill of Rights no matter
what.

H is for House of RepresentativesThe House of Representatives is a group of elected
officials from a certain state who represent that state in the
government. Before the Bill of Rights could be passed, it
had to gain the approval of the states, which was given to
the government by the Houses from each state. Virginia was
the last state to approve the Bill of Rights for the government

I is for IndependenceBeing independent means you don't have to rely on
anyone to live. Our country became Independent on July
4th, 1776. The Bill of Rights is a list of rights we have
because we are independent.

J is for JuryA jury is a group of people who come to a court case to determine
whether or not the criminal in the case is guilty or not guilty. The
7th amendment of the Bill of Rights guarantees that all citizens
will have a fair jury trial in civil cases. The jury must be unbiased
in order to be a fair jury.

K is for Keep & Bear ArmsThe 2nd amendment of the Bill of Rights guarantees that
citizens can keep a gun. Most states require that you must
own a permit to purchase a gun. You also cannot be
convicted of a felony and purchase a gun.

L is for LibertyLiberty is the state of being free in you country. The Bill of
Rights was written because we as Americans have liberty.
Our liberty is one of our unalienable rights we are guaranteed

M is for MagistrateA magistrate is a governmental officer who administers the law,
especially dealing with courts. Magistrates police officers and
judges. Magistrates must administer the amendments in the
Bill of Rights.

N is for Nation's PowerThe 10th amendment of th Bill of Rights says that any power
the government doesn't already have goes to the people of the
states in the nation. The nation has the power to elect
candidates to office, make petitions to ask the government
to change something, and protest against the government.
Without the people of the nation, America couldn't operate
effectively.

O is for OwnCitizens of the United States have a right to privacy
guaranteed by the Bill of Rights. The government can't
search through these things without a warrant issued by a
judge. You have the right to own property, items, guns,
a business, etc.
