One beautiful spring day, in the village of Harrison,
brother and sister Losola and Missy were having a
picnic with their pet dog and best friend, Ruffie.
After a long day of playing their favorite games
and eating a big meal of sandwiches and cake, the
pair had become quite tired. "Missy" said Losola, "I
sure am tired, I am going to take a nap under this
big shady tree. Please make sure you keep an eye
on Ruffie, you know how curious he can be"
"Okay" said Missy with a big yawn.

Zzzz...Zzzzz

Zzzzzz...Zzzz

It didn't take long before both children were
fast asleep under the big shade trees.
Ruffie, who always had a reputation of being a
very curious pup, caught a whiff of a new scent
and began to follow it through the forest.

A short time later, both children awoke from their
naps feeling refreshed. With a big stretch and a yawn,
Losola said "Thanks for watching Ruffie while I took a
nap sister". Missy rubbed the sleep from her eyes and
exclaimed "Oh my! I must have accidentally fallen
asleep. Where is Ruffie?!"
Both children began looking everywhere for Ruffie.
They looked behind tree's, under rocks, even in a
rabbits hole. The whole time they cried out "Ruffie!"
"Ruffie where are you!" Then Losola noticed some
tracks. "Look at this sister, these are Ruffies paw
prints. Lets get our bikes and follow the trail!"

The children fetched their bikes and began to
follow Ruffie's paw prints. They pedaled through
the forest, past the village and into the pasture on
the other side of town.
They had never been this far outside of the village
before. "Losola" said Missy. "I am getting a little
frightened, I've heard stories about the cave
dragon that lives on the other side of this pasture.
People say that he is very big and scary looking"
"Don't worry sister" Losola replied "We must be
brave for our friend Ruffie" and the children
continued on...

Soon enough, the children had made their way
through the pasture and came upon Dragon
mountain. Ruffie's tracks were heading right to
it! The children left their bikes behind and
began to walk around looking for the secret
mountain entrance.

As the sun began to set, the children stumbled upon
the entrance to the cave dragons lair. "Should we
knock on the door?" asked Missy. Before Losola had
time to answer they heard a load "ROAAAR!!!" "Who
dares to disturb me!" boomed a loud voice.
"We do, Losola and Missy" Losola replied nervously.
"We have come looking for our missing dog, Ruffie.
We followed his trail to your door Mr. Dragon. We
have traveled many miles, we are tired and we did not
mean to bother you. We miss our best pal Ruffie and
would go anywhere to find him"

"You care for the creature named Ruffie?" asked the
dragon.
"We do, we love him very much. He is our best friend."
Missy replied.
The dragon then walked closer to the children and hung
his head down looking them in the eyes.
"My name is Flash the cave dragon" he spoke with
smoke seeping from his nostrils. "People and animals
think I'm scary because I am big and red. No one has
ever wanted to speak to me or visit my mountain home
just because of how I look. The truth is, I am a really
nice guy. I become very lonely living in this mountain."

"Ruffie came to my home last night, he was lost and
looking for the zoo. Ruffie was not scared of me and
spoke to me nicely, we became friends. Ruffie told me
how nice of a feeling it was to have friends who love
you. I see that you love your friend Ruffie and I want
to help you find him."
The children were surprised at how sweet the big red
dragon was. "THANK YOU! Mr. Flash Dragon" the
children exclaimed. "You are a very nice dragon and
we would be happy to call you our new friend".
"Come children, hop on my back, we are going for a
ride to find Ruffie. Make sure you hold on tight"
And with that the children climbed on to the big
dragons back, and off they went.
