This legend is dedicated to all the history popularly inherited in the Easten Plains.

I’ve lived in the small town of Saint Helena for as long as I can remember. Nestled in the heart of Colombia, this town is known for its rich history and, more intriguingly, its legends.
The most famous of these is the legend of The "Ánima" of Saint Helena, a spirit that has haunted our town for generations.
I first heard about the legend from my grandmother, who would often tell the tale as we sat by the fire on chilly evenings. She spoke of a woman named Helena, wronged in her lifetime, whose restless spirit now roams the streets at night seeking justice. As children, we were terrified yet fascinated by these tales, never quite sure if they were true or just stories to keep us in line.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon and the town was enveloped in darkness, I found myself walking home alone. The air was thick with an eerie silence, broken only by the occasional rustle of leaves. I had just finished a long day of work and was eager to get home, but something felt off. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and I quickened my pace.

Suddenly, I heard a soft whisper behind me.
“Did you hear that?” I whispered to myself, my voice trembling.
“It’s just the wind,” I tried to convince myself, though I wasn’t sure.
The whispering grew louder, turning into a mournful wail that sent chills down my spine. I turned around, and there she was—Helena. Her translucent figure floated above the ground, her eyes full of sorrow and anger.
“Why have you disturbed my rest?” she asked, her voice echoing in the still night.
“I…I didn’t mean to,” I stammered, taking a step back.
“You must help me find peace,” Helena continued, her tone desperate yet commanding.
“How…how can I help?” I managed to ask, my fear slowly giving way to curiosity.
“You must tell my story. Let the world know of the injustice I suffered,” she replied, her form beginning to fade.
“I will, I promise,” I said, as her presence slowly disappeared into the night.
That night, I could barely sleep, thinking about Helena’s sad tale. I decided to investigate more about her, talking to the town’s elders and looking through old records.

Helena was a beautiful and kind young woman, known for her generosity and free spirit. One day, a powerful and wealthy man in the town, Don Pedro, became infatuated with her. Helena rejected him, preferring to live her life free from the shackles of power and money.
Enraged by her rejection, Don Pedro plotted his revenge. He accused Helena of witchcraft and poisoning his family. In those times, such accusations were enough to condemn a person without concrete evidence. Helena was arrested, subjected to an unfair trial, and sentenced to death.
Before she died, Helena swore that her spirit would not rest until her name was cleared and the truth was revealed. Since then, her ghost has been seen wandering the streets of Saint Helena, especially on dark, quiet nights, seeking those who can help her achieve justice.
The day after my encounter with Helena, I visited the town's library, a place filled with ancient documents and forgotten stories. I dug through old records and dusty books, hoping to find any mention of Helena or the trial that condemned her. After hours of searching, I found a journal written by Father Miguel, the priest who had overseen Helena’s trial.
