This book is inspired by my own relationship with Jesus, who is my compassionate and supportive friend. He has heard and helped me on many occasions. I thank the many priests whose homilies have helped develop an understanding of the Gospel. I also thank my Faith Circles group; we have been meeting weekly to reflect on the upcoming week's Gospel reading for over 3 years commencing during the COVID pandemic 2020.

Jesus is the son of God. He was born in a stable in Bethlehem to Mary and Joseph, who were engaged to be married. There was a bright star that shone in the sky that night. Special visitors followed the star and came to honour him. We still celebrate His birth as Christmas.

Jesus grew up as a carpenter because his stepfather Joseph was a carpenter. He loved going to the temple to learn about God. Once his parents thought he got lost, but he was at the temple.

Jesus was also interested in people. When he was 30 years old, he stopped being a carpenter. He started his Mission to help people to live happier lives. He reminded people to be sorry for any of their bad ways. He taught people how to do the right thing, be peace makers, be humble, be forgiving and kind. Jesus wants us to be the best people we can be, using all out gifts to the fullest.
That is the pathway to Heaven.
Matthew 5:3-12
Luke 6:20-23
Matthew 25:14-30

Jesus wants us to have faith in him, and God the Father. Trust in God makes you strong and able to do all things. Relying on God's will is very powerful. God's ways are not like man's ways.
His instruction was simple, to “Love God and to love one another". He said we must accept and look after each other, especially the poor, sick, old, lonely, those left out, and those who are unhappy.
This will lead us to God.
Matthew 22:37-39, Matthew 14:31
John 6:25, Matthew 17:20, Matthew 6:26-34

Jesus prayed to God the Father. This is like talking to God. By talking to God we can have a relationship with God the Father. Jesus gave an example of what to say to God. This is called the “Lord’s Prayer”.
Luke 11:2-4
Matthew 6:9-14
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, Who are in Heaven
Hallowed be your name
Your Kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
Forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those that trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptations
Deliver us from evil.
Amen
Jesus was human but because he is also God’s son, he had divine powers to do miracles.
When Jesus’ friend Lazarus was sick and died, Jesus was able to bring him back to life. When a young girl died, Jesus brought her back to life too. Jesus healed many people who were sick. He healed people with fevers, leprosy, bleeding, blindness, deafness, paralysis, and people who were crippled could walk again.
Luke 17:11-19, John 11:1-44, Matthew9:1-8, Matthew 9:18-26, John 5:1-15,
Mark 7: 31-37, Mark 8:22-26, Mark 5:25-34, Matthew 8:14-15, Luke 4:38-39

At a wedding in Cana, when they ran out of wine, Jesus’ mother Mary, prompted him. Jesus listened to his mother and miraculously converted hundreds of litres of water into the best quality wine so the people could continue to enjoy and celebrate that very special occasion.
John 2:1-11

Lots of people heard about Jesus. He didn't want to be famous, but crowds followed him. Once there was 5000 people that came to see and hear him. They loved learning from his parables. They stayed late. Rather than just sending them away, Jesus felt sorry for them. He took five loaves of bread and two fish, looked up to heaven and gave thanks to God. After that there was enough food to feed the whole 5000 people and there were 12 baskets of leftovers!
Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 8:1-10, Matthew 15:32-39
Jesus had a team of 12 people that he chose to help him. They were the 12 Apostles.
Jesus was kind and compassionate. He had dinner and talked to people even when no one else would.
Once on a boat, the Apostles were frightened because there was a bad storm. Jesus helped by telling the wind to, “Be quiet”, and the waves to, “Be still!”. Then everything was calm again.
