Platypus are found in eastern Australia from the steamy tropics of far north Queensland to the freezing snows of Tasmania. In Queensland, platypuses live in rivers east of the Great Dividing Range, and are also found in some western-flowing streams. In north Queensland, the range of the platypus is close to the coast. 🌅

Platypuses eat  insect larvae,  yabbies' ,  small fish and worms. Platypuses find their food amongst the rocks, leaf litter and other material on the bottom of the water body with their bill. They then store the food collected in large cheek pouches, and chew it when they reach the surface.

Platypuses  make a series of  squeaks, snuffles, and growls when disturbed.  

Natural enemies of the platypus include snakes, water rats, goannas and introduced animals such as foxes, cats and dogs. Entanglement in litter, especially discarded fishing line, and  yabby  traps causes many drowning deaths of platypus.

The platypus is a bottom-feeder that uses its beaver-like tail to steer and its webbed feet to propel itself through the water while hunting for insects, shellfish, and worms. The watertight nostrils on its bill remain sealed so that the animal can stay submerged for up to two minutes as it forages for food.

A mother platypus typically produces one or two eggs and keeps them warm by holding them between her body and her tail. The eggs hatch in about ten days, but platypus infants are the size of lima beans and totally helpless. Females nurse their young for three to four months until the babies can swim on their own.

Platypuses can swim through fast waters at the speed of around 1 metre per second, but when foraging the speed is closer to 0.4 metres per second.

Platypuses are found in Australia! They are monotremes. Platypuses are rare to see due to being endangered species.🙂

Echidnas are found throughout New Guinea and mainland Australia, as well as Tasmania, King Island, Flinders Island and Kangaroo Island. They are Australia's most widespread native mammal, being found in almost all habitats, from snow-covered mountains to deserts.
