One sunny bright day there lived an ordinary teenager girl
named Emma; she had shiny blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes.
Emma was also very kind and neat. She was fourteen years old,
and felt lonely, she never saw her dad because unfortunately he
died in car crash when she was only three years old.
Her mom was always working and traveling around Europe, so
Emma didn't see her mom as often. But her grandma Geraldine
was her full time carer.
One Wednesday morning the phone rang at 8 a.m. Emma
shouted to her grandma before they got in the car to go to
school:
“ I’ll get the phone grandma!”

When Emma put the phone close to her ear she heard a voice
talking with a german accent.
“Hello, hello is anybody home?”
Emma was very confused so she decided not to speak, the strange
voice continued:
“Excuse me is anybody home? Can I speak to Ger…... it’s about the
par..” but she could not hear what that stranger was saying because
her grandma was shouting
“Come on you will be late for school!”
“Ok” Emma sighed and quickly hung up the telephone without giving
any reply.
(Emma’s grandma does not have any patience).

When Emma arrived at school she was told off by her teacher for
being late (as usual). She was sent to detention for two whole hours
(it was boring). During playtime everyone in her class sat and laughed
at her, except for Tom, he liked Emma.
Although, Tom picked his nose every three minutes, he wore pink and
purple glasses, he loved reading, but for some strange reason he never
handed in his homework (he would get detention nearly every day).
Tom also wore shirts with hearts and flowers on them, and he loved
playing with dolls.
Everyone laughed at him especially the mean girls; but not Emma. She
accepted people as they were.

When Emma came back from school her grandmother said:
- “How was your day?”
Emma replied sadly “it was awful, again, because everybody teased me
and laughed at me just because I got sent to detention for two
hours”.
“Emma don’t always listen to what other people say, just ignore them
and they will stop disturbing you. Stay focused on your dreams and
don’t copy their behavior.” her grandmother soothed her.Emma hugged
her grandma and rushed to her room, jumped on her bed and glanced
at the calendar.
“Three days till my birthday,” she whispered to herself while taking
out the huge stack of math homework still to do.
Exactly when she finished her homework her grandma shouted: ‘‘Bed
time!” Emma slipped into her pajamas brushed her teeth and rushed to
bed with her favorite book, she always read before falling asleep.

“FINALLY THE DAY HAS COME, IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!” Emma
shouted out loud for the whole house to hear.
To her surprise there were colorful balloons, pop music, lots of
cupcakes and huge posters saying ‘Happy Birthday day Emma!’ all right
there in her tiny living room.
The doorbell rang and a strange man walked in the living room holding
hands with Emma’s mum...
The man had a strong German accent when he spoke to Emma,
“Hello my darling daughter’’ he said staring at Emma with a smile.
“You can’t be my dad....who are you?’’ Emma replied curiously
“Well Emma he is your step dad!” said Emma’s mum in a quiet voice,
“He is your Step-Dad, can I speak to you Emma in private?’’

They both went into the kitchen and Emma’s mum said to her
“My Sweetie, during one of my business trips I met this wonderful
man, Hans. He respects and loves me so we decided to get married
soon. He always wanted a daughter because he lost his due to a
sickness. He called earlier just to hear your voice. He is the one that
arranged this surprise party for you. He’s a good man and wants to
take care of you as if you were his own.
What do you say?”
Emma was confused, didn't know how to feel. She understood that
her mum was very happy and therefore she’d be happy too.
She quickly turned around and ran to the living room (where her party
was) and said to her step-dad:
“Welcome to our family!” and gave him a warm hug.

After some minutes the doorbell rang again…
DING-DONG
The door slowly opened and a tall handsome teenager stepped inside
the house. Blonde hair blue eyes who can this stranger be?
“Hello is this Emma’s party?” the boy said looking around the house.
“Yes come in come in” said Emma’s grandma.
“Emma, this is Johnny say hello’’ whispered her mum in her welcoming
voice.
“Hi Johnny” Emma replied a bit reserved because she had never met
him before.
“Hey Emma Happy Birthday!”
“Thanks, but who exactly are you?”
“Oh, I forgot to introduce myself, well I am Johnny Parker, our dads
were childhood best friends.”

“It’s a pleasure meeting you Johnny Parker.” She had so
many questions about her real dad to ask Johnny’s
father, “This is truly a birthday gift!” She thought to
herself. “Let’s go and dance before the party’s over.”
“OK.”
So Johnny and Emma danced till midnight like there was
no tomorrow. That night Emma could not sleep she
kept on thinking of Johnny and her step dad.

When Emma woke up she thought it was all a dream but
it wasn't because her step-dad came to her room and
greeted her good morning with a warm plate of freshly
made pancakes and her favorite strawberry milkshake.
Tears filled her eyes and the only words she could
outer were “Thank You!”
Emma was sad that her father died when she was three
but today she felt very happy to finally have a step dad.
Someone who cared about her and loved her.
Emma remembered some of the things that they had
said last night with Johnny.

His favorite place to hang out was the beach near by,
and that he worked there sometimes as a lifeguard (it’s
his hobby).
When Emma remembered those things she right away
put on her bathing suit and headed to the beach to find
Johnny, her true love. Or at least that’s how she felt
at that moment about him.
Once she arrived to the particular spot on the beach
Emma saw him high up on a life guard tower looking out
if anybody was drowning (but nobody was).

Emma called out his name
“Johnny, Johnny down here, it’s Emma from yesterday’s
party,”
Johnny looked down right at her and gestured to her to
climb up to the lifeguard tower where he was sitting on.
She did with little effort
Once she reach the top Emma saw some drawings of her
classmates Jessica, Arianna and Clara the meanest girls
ever. They might be pretty and popular but they were
very very mean. Emma thought for a moment to herself,

“Maybe Johnny likes Jessica and he just likes me as a
friend?”
Emma decided to go ahead and ask Johnny why he had
the drawings of such mean girls on his wall.
“Well… long story but I will tell you because you are
really cool to me. Before I met you, Jessica and I were
dating and she forced me to draw pictures of her and I
together in my favorite area (this life guard tower), so
I did.
