This book is dedicated to my EDU 215 class. I hope we all grow to be amazing teachers who stick up for our students.

In a bright, busy middle school, Jamie sat at her art desk, surrounded by splashes of color. At twelve years old, she found comfort in painting, where her emotions flowed freely onto the canvas. Jamie has autism and expresses herself through her paintings. Today, she was working on a vibrant landscape that reflected her love for nature.

“Great job, Jamie!” Mr. Adams, her art teacher, encouraged as he walked by. He always believed in Jamie’s talent and her unique perspective on the world. “Your colors are so lively! What are you trying to express?”
Jamie smiled shyly. “I want people to feel the joy I see in the flowers and trees.”

But as Jamie shared her painting with the class, she overheard a few classmates whispering. “Why does her art look so weird?” one said. “It doesn’t even look real,” another added.
Jamie’s heart sank. She felt the warmth of the classroom turn cold, and her hands tightened around her paintbrush.

After class, Jamie retreated to the corner of the room, her canvas now a reminder of her isolation. Mr. Adams noticed her withdrawn expression and approached gently. “What’s wrong, Jamie? You have so much talent.”
“I just… I don’t think they understand my art,” Jamie replied, her voice barely above a whisper.

Determined to help, Mr. Adams planned an art showcase for the entire class. “This will be a chance for everyone to share their work and appreciate each other’s creativity,” he explained. “Let’s celebrate our differences!”
Jamie felt a flicker of hope but also fear. Would her classmates accept her art?

The day of the showcase arrived. Students hung their art around the room, and excitement buzzed in the air. Jamie stood nervously beside her painting, her heart racing.
Sophie, a girl from her class, approached. “What’s that supposed to be?” she asked, tilting her head.
