How it all started......I developed this creative arts activity for language/literacy development by thinking about how I could bring together visual arts and literacy development in a fun way for children. This activity encourages children to work on their creativity and communication by creating their own storybook. Children will work in groups to create their own story using drawings and simple captions.
The children will create a book mainly with pictures and captions. They will draw out their ideas and will have to tell the story when they present to the class. My intended audience for this activity is elementary school children. I think this activity is developmentally appropriate because children of this age should be able to draw and tell a story. This activity will also help the children develop or reinforce skills such as, language development, literacy skills, and creative development. I decided on this activity because I thought it was a simple and fun way for children to develop their language and literacy incorporating visual arts.

Good morning Second Grade! Today we will have a fun activity, we are going to be creating illustrated storybooks and presenting them to the class!

Get together in small groups and begin deciding what your story will be about. Once you have created a story, draw it out and label the pages with simple captions. Once everybody is done we will be presenting the stories to the class. You will have to tell us what your story is about, remember the book will only have illustrations!

I will be walking around to check on everyone's progress and approve the stories before we present. If you need any help let me know! Now let's get to work!

The children were excited to work on their storybooks and got straight to work. They divided their jobs and began illustrating their stories. Once everyone was ready it was time to present.
The children were eager to present and loved sharing their stories. They did a great job drawing out the things they had come up with and told some amazing stories to the class!

As they presented I took note of what each student did and of what their stories consisted of. Once they were done presenting I asked them some questions on what they had done. I documented their work and saved each of the stories.
