Head up and alert
No scars on legs
Sound, and not lame
Not limping or lame

Can do what you expect
Smooth, flowing gait
Eating and drinking normally
Not overly fat, or too skinny
Making your horse feel at home
Bringing a horse home for the first time can be traumatizing for the horse, so these are some tips to make it easier.
1. Make sure the stall, paddock, or field is ready for the horse
Have some fresh water available
2. Do not immediately put the horse to work
3.Groom the horse and talk softly to the horse
4. Make a routine so the horse gets comfortable
5.Slowly give the horse its hay and grain
6.Don't do anything extreme, and let them settle in
7.Just get to know your horse, and let the horse bond with you
