Adeline Washington is in fifth grade. Since she was little, she had trouble seeing because of a condition she has and is now almost completely blind. When she started school, she discovered her hearing is better than everyone else's. 

Addie could hear teachers whispering across the classroom and her parents talking in the kitchen even from her bedroom. When her parents took her to the doctor, they said her hearing was twice as good as the average person. She had super hearing!

Now, Addie attends Coolsville Elementary School with her best friend Natalie. They are both in Miss Pepper's class and they live next door to each other!

Even though she has to use braille books and read-aloud computer programs, Addie wouldn't change anything. And the super hearing makes her feel extra special!

So far, it has been a great school year! Now that it's almost May, Addie and Natalie are excited for Summer. One day at recess, Addie overheard something that made her nervous. Tristen and Rachel were whispering about being mad at Principal Warren because he gave them detention.

On the way home, Addie told Natalie what she heard. "What if they do something bad?" she worried.

"You should probably forget about it," Natalie told her. "They might not do anything."

A few days later, Addie overheard the same kids talking again. This time, they were making a plan to come to the school at night and mess up Mr. Warren's office.

When they got to Addie's house after school, she had to tell Natalie everything. Again, Natalie told her to stay quiet. "If they find out it was you they might make fun of you."

Addie could not stop thinking about what she heard for the rest of the day. Should she tell Natalie?

On Monday morning, the students arrived at school to find the office a disaster! Papers on the floor, drinks spilled on the desk! As soon as everyone got to class, Mr. Warren made an announcement over the PA: "If no one admits to making this mess, the end-of-year dance will be cancelled."
