This story is dedicated to young girls who think they can't pursue their passion of sports.

Maya and her dad loved to play soccer together.

They practiced everyday even right outside their house, which made Maya better than most of the kids her age.

Soon, the first day of school came around and Maya noticed a flyer that read...

Flyer
soccer tryouts
Time: RECESS
Where: On the Soccer Field
What to bring: Shoes, Water bottle, and yourself!
Come to Room 24 if you have any questions
Mr. Cotter

When Maya went to tryouts, she noticed there were no other girls there. But this didn't stop her from trying out for the team.

Mr. Cotter called everybody in to talk about tryouts, then this one boy named Kyle shouted out,
"Why is Maya trying out? She's a Girl, she can't play with us!"

Everyone laughed, which made Maya feel upset.
Mr. Cotter shouts at the boys,
"That's enough! Let's be kind and start tryouts."

As tryouts began, Maya noticed Kyle snickering at her
"You are terrible! You will never be as good as us"

So, Maya proved Kyle wrong.

here pass!

By scoring not once, not twice, but three times!
"Looks like I am as good as you", Maya laughs.

Mr. Cotter brings us all in a circle and says,
"Great Job everybody, I was really impressed with some of you today, and I'm looking forward to this season. Tryout results will be posted tomorrow."
After the tryouts, Maya and her dad talked about the boy that made fun of her.
Maya's dad asked, "Hey Maya! How were tryouts today?"

"It was good! At first, this boy discouraged me but I did my best despite what he had to say."

"What If Kyle was right? What If I'm not good enough for the team because I'm a girl?"
While Maya was getting ready to go to bed, she couldn't help but think,
The Next Day At School
Kyle laughs, "Look it's Maya she really thinks she's going to make the soccer team. "

"Hahahaha! You could never be as good as us!" Jonah shouts.

"Hey boys, I would go check out the tryout results on the flyer in the classroom if I were you.."

Then the shy girl standing next to Maya says,

TRYOUT
RESULTS
The boys and Maya ran into the classroom, and frantically searched for their names on the flyer

TRYOUT
RESULTS

Maya empathizes, "Sorry guys, I hope you both make the team next year. Maybe you guys didn't have enough practice."
"Ugh whatever," Kyle mumbled.

Moral of the Story: Don't let others push you around just because of a stereotype. You can achieve whatever you want when you put your mind to it. Just because others don't like who you are doesn't mean, you can't be yourself.
