Who am I....
If you close your eyes and cover your ears. It's completely dark and quiet. This is the world that one important little girl lived in. She was blind and deaf. Her disability wasn't something that would stop her from making an impact on our future.

This is a story of Helen Keller a women who was deaf and blind. With her story she shows us that we don't let our disabilities define us and our futures.

Helen Keller was born on June 27,1880. She lived with her family in Tuscumbia, Alabama.

When Keller was young, around a year old she got very sick. When she was better it was noticed that she didn't blink when looking right at the sun. She didn't respond when she was called for or when the dinner bell rang. The doctors told her parents she had lost her hearing and sight forever.

Once the sickness took her sight and hearing Keller's world changed. As a young child her world was forever changed into a dark, silent and confusing world.

Keller was often thought to be very lonely and frustrated. She would often throw tantrums. The kicking and fighting often frustrated her parents but they wouldn't give up on her.
Keller's mother read about a school for blind and deaf children. These children learned to finger-spell words into a person's hand. She wanted her daughter to learn the same.

They went to Washington, D.C. to visit Alexander Graham Bell who was well known for teaching deaf children. Bell was able to help find a teacher for Keller.

Annie Sullivan was the teacher that arrived when Keller was six years old. Sullivan tried to finger-spell into Keller's hand but she did not understand.

Sullivan understood what she needed to do to help Keller. One day she spelled water while at the same time she was pumping water into Keller's other hand. This helped Keller to finally connect and understand which brought her joy.
