Hello, I'm Esha.
Esha grew up in a small, conservative village where tradition was valued above all. She was a bright and curious girl. For Esha, knowledge was freedom, and she wanted to experience every part of life beyond the familiar village boundaries. But freedom, she knew, would not come easily.
When she turned 18, Esha received an acceptance letter to a prestigious university in the city. It was a rare opportunity, especially for a girl from her village. Excitement rushed through her as she shared the news with her family. She imagined their happiness, but what she met was a heavy silence. Her father’s face grew stern.
“You’ve grown up,” (he said in a measured voice, his tone like stone) “It’s time to prepare for marriage, not to run off to the city.”
“Father,” Esha replied, (trying to keep her voice steady), “I want to study. This is my dream—my chance to make something of myself.”
(But he wouldn’t budge.) “The city is no place for a girl like you,” he said coldly. “End of discussion.”
“Mother, please,” she pleaded. “I need you to talk to him. I’m not asking to abandon our family; I’m asking for the chance to build a life.”
Esha was devastated, but she refused to give up. That night, she went to her mother, hoping she would understand.
Her mother looked torn. She wanted her daughter to be happy, but tradition held her back.
“Esha, I understand, but your father has the final say,” she said softly, reaching out to comfort her.
But Esha couldn’t rest. Days passed in a fog of desperation until she made a choice that terrified her. With a borrowed phone and trembling hands, she called her old schoolteacher, Mrs. Kapoor.
“Ma’am, I have nowhere else to turn,” Esha whispered. “I need to go, but I can’t do it alone.”
Mrs. Kapoor, who had always encouraged Esha’s ambitions, responded without hesitation.
“Esha, I will help you. Pack your things, and I’ll meet you on the edge of the village at dawn.”
