“OK, here’s how we are gonna do this,” started Riley, the
self-proclaimed person-in-charge.
Cooper had a pensive look on his face, wondering just how it
happened that Riley was giving the instructions.
“Uh, Riley,” he began. “Who died and made you in charge?”
Campbell and Reese just waited, wondering, watching . . .
Riley began, “Well, since I’m the oldest and I am, after all,
not in elementary school any more. . . Hmmm, OK actually,
you know what? Let’s just do it ALL together. After all,
Gram addressed it to ALL of us!

“Ok, let’s get this show on the road! Now what exactly did Gram give us?”
Cooper questioned.
Gram had left an item last night in a big, BIG envelope that the kids were not
to open until the morning. And now, well, now it is morning.
While Riley and Cooper were bantering,
Campbell and Reese had actually opened
it and were looking it over.
It appeared to be some sort of scavenger
hunt. “What could it be all about?” they
all were thinking.
There was a note and a map of sorts.

The note read,
“Dear Kiddos,
Here is a little game I think you all will like.
It may involve the car, or perhaps a little hike.
Just follow all the clues to see what/where is next.
It might be under a rock or hidden in a text.
At the last clue of all, around the final bend –
Your joy will be complete, right to the very end!”

“Oh my goodness!” they all exclaimed. “Let’s go! Let’s get
started! What’s the first clue???”
#1 it’s on a hill, with a view.
A river wide and a sky of blue.
Fortunately Mama and Papa had a heads up on the clues
so helped them out. “ Oh right! Mama and Papa will have
to drive us there!” they all agreed.
With a bag of secret provisions prepared my Mama, off
they went.

There on the bluff they found the next clue.
#2 Truman the Tiger you must find;
and the next stop will blow your mind.
“Yes! Let’s go!”
There, right by
the famous columns,
in Truman's pocket,
was the next clue!
All the kiddos were having such fun. They giggled and played
and ran around the open field.

Then they headed to Clue #3.
#3 Can you find the giant nest?
Take a picture; look your best.
“Found it!” Cooper declared, running all the way! Campbell and
Reese joined him inside the nest, Campbell looking for the next
clue while Reese said, “I wonder just how big the mama bird is
who lives here. I hope she doesn’t show up while we’re here. She
must be a giant!”
Cooper burst out laughing while
Campbell found the next clue.

#4 There’s a building you may find,
stinky it may be.
Dig deep into the rubble
and see what you can see.
Riley, who had just caught up with the
gang, knew exactly where to go. “Face
masks, everyone!” she declared as she
proceeded to hand them out from the
big bag Mama had packed. “It really
is stinky there!”
She showed them the way and, sure
enough, there, under the rubble was
another clue.

Campbell hit the wall. Well, not exactly. But she did sit on one. She had
had enough. She was tired and frustrated. “How many more clues? Where
are we going? What’s at the end? I’m hungry!”
Riley and Cooper and Reese all joined her,
agreeing with every word.
They took a break. They ate some lunch, also
packed in the big bag. They had some fun. . .
and they tried to make Campbell laugh!
It worked!
