Mama bear and buddy bear take walks in the woods everyday! On their walks, Buddy loves to catch fish in the stream by their den. While Mama bear loves to eat the berries in the nearby trees. 

One day, after they get back to their den after their daily walk, Mama bear says to Buddy bear, "We ought to fetch more berries and catch more fish tomorrow my baby bear. The winter season is upon us."

Later in the bears den that night, Mama serves dinner from their gatherings of fish and berries. "We will have a bigger dinner today because we need to prepare for the winter," Mama says to baby bear. 

Buddy bear looks at Mama bear with a puzzled look. "Why must we catch more fish and berries? Why must we eat a big dinner Mama? Why is winter so important?" He badgers. 

"I will tell you tomorrow my child," Mama bear says gently. Buddy Bear pouts before he falls fast asleep for the night. 

Bright and early the next morning, Buddy and Mama begin their daily stroll. "Will you tell me now Mama, about winter?" Buddy questions. "Yes I will my love," Mama assures him while picking a berry from a bush. 

"Winter is a time of year where the weather is cold and the food is scarce for us bears," Mama begins. "As the seasons change we have to adapt to our surroundings my baby bear, and this is why we hibernate."

"But why does this happen Mama? Why does the weather become so cold during winter?" Buddy eagerly asks. Mama bear laughs, "Be patient curious bear, I will explain."  

"Close your eyes now and imagine." Mama bears suggests. "We live on Earth which is a planet in our solar system." 

"Earth, as do other planets in our solar system, rotate around the sun. One rotation around the earth is equal to a year."

"Our Earth also rotates on its axis which explains why we have days," Mama bear continues. 

"But baby bear the reason for the seasons is because earths axis is tilted!"
