Once upon a time, a 12-year-old girl named Nora lived in a small town called Newfane with her parents. Her greatest passion was painting. Every day, Nora would either stand and paint in her room or sit by her window with her sketchbook, coloring beautiful pictures of the world around her. From fall to spring, Nora would come home after school to finish her homework quickly, so she could start painting. During the summer, Nora would spend hours in her room looking out her window and indulging in her favorite pastime, painting the astonishing nature around her.
This was Nora's passion. Painting the world made her heart sing.

One sunny afternoon, Nora was enjoying the sun after a rainy morning. She played in her backyard. She was having fun spinning on the roundabout. But the more she spun, the dizzier Nora became. Nora jumped off and onto the wet grass, ready to get off the spinning playground.

"Ooouuch!!! My wrist! It hurts so bad! Help!"

But as Nora jumped to the grass, she tripped and fell on her dominant wrist, the one she used to do all her paintings. Nora cried out in pain. It hurt really badly! Her clothes were a muddy mess and her wrist throbbed as her parents came to help her up.

When Nora's parents found her, they all drove to the doctor's office. When the family arrived they met Dr. Gargat, who put a cast on Nora's wrist and told her, "You must let it rest for a few weeks." The doctor reported that Nora had fractured her wrist. Nora anxiously asked, "But will I still be able to paint?" But Dr Gargant sadly replied, "I'm sorry, but it will be hard to continue writing and painting for the next few weeks. Just take it easy." Nora became instantly sad as she was told she could not perform her favorite activity anymore.

Nora was eagerly counting the days until the cast would come off. Day after day, all through the night, Nora anxiously waited for the day the cast came off.

Six weeks had passed and there was no sign from Dr. Garagt that the cast would come off anytime soon, only adding to her miserability.

But finally, the day arrived. The cast was taken off. It had been nine weeks since the fall. Every day of those nine weeks was more dreadful than the last, but Nora got through it.
Nora was very excited to draw again. When she arrived home from the doctor's office, Nora excitedly ran to her room, grabbed her easel and paints, and started to illustrate the world through her window.

But when Nora tried to paint, her wrist felt weak and her drawings didn't look like they used to. The lines were shaky and the shapes were all wrong.
Nora's heart sank. She whispered to herself, "I feel like I've lost my special talent."
For the next few days, Nora stayed in her room, feeling sad and frustrated. She felt tormented as she was now unable to express her passion for art like she was used to doing. She was furious. After the nine-week wait she persevered through, she was still unable to paint.

But one day, Nora looked at her plant on her side table. It had grown a new leaf despite its last one shriveling up and dying.
This made Nora realize something important. As Nora looked questionably toward the plant, it seemed to whisper a message of resilience to Nora, trying to inspire her to keep going.
