America has begun to become vibrant colonies in the early 1700s that have become very profitable. Towns and settlements have expanded in land, economy, and population.

The colonies in America are under the rule of the British Empire. They have become a huge boost to the economy and profit of Britain. Although Britain has engaged in costly wars in the French and Indian War, this severely cost them a great amount of money and resources.
Britain now, with an increasing debt, looks to the colonies as a way to bring themselves out of this increasing debt and loss of revenue. This results in an increase in taxes from 3 acts/legislation that is passed by the British onto the colonists: Stamp Act, Townshend Act, and the Tea Act.
The colonists are appalled by the increase in taxes which leads to colonial resistance towards the carrying out of these acts. The colonists were angry about their lack of representation in British Parliament (Law makers) and wanted the same rights as other British citizens.
These protests led to events such as the Boston massacre leaving numerous people dead and injured in 1770. Other protests such as the Boston Tea Party brought out the disgust of parliament which led to harsher legislations such as the Coercive acts meant to gain authority back in parts of the colonies
In 1774 colonial delegates met in Philadelphia to voice their concerns and ideas, later known as the Continental Congress . This led to an agreement to demand independence from Britain. George Washington was called upon to lead and delegate the colonial armies. Later we see at the battles of Lexington and Concord, decisive battles that started the Revolutionary war.
The Continental Congress met and voted to form a Continental army which would now be a true delegated army. There were numerous battles such as the battle of Bunker hill that ended in a British victory. Later on Washington won a surprised victory in Trenton, New Jersey.

On July 4th the Continental Congress voted to adopt the Declaration of Independence. The colonists saw a turning point in the war when the French officially aided the colonists and the decisive win at the battle of Saratoga.
