Once upon a time, there was a small kingdom who was suffering from the attacks of a vicious monster.

The animals who lived in that kingdom were very small, and didn't have the strength to stop the monster with brute force.

Each day, the Monster would storm the village and steal some food. 

And so the kingdom's ruler called in his wisest advisors to brainstorm a plan. The eldest proposed that they build a solid stone wall around the village while a small band of warriors went out to distract the monster. The king agreed.

However, the monster was very strong, and could not be stopped by a wall. The king and all his subjects were too tired to do anything but watch helplessly as the monster raided their food once more.

But just as the king was about to give up hope, 5 brave subjects approached him. "We each have an idea to stop the monster." They said, "Would you listen to our ideas?" "Yes!" the king agreed enthusiastically.

And so the Baker and his wife stepped forward. "My king," the Baker said. "Throughout my baking career, I have noticed that animals might be scared of their reflection." The baker gestured to the broken wall. "If we placed a large glass mirror in front of the monster's path, it might be scared off!" "It might indeed.." the king mused.

And so the Baker worked late into the night making a giant glass mirror.

And so when the monster came back the next morning, it walked straight into the sheet of glass.

With a startled yelp of fright, the monster raced off into the forest. It seemed that the Baker's plan had worked! All night the kingdom celebrated in jubilation, the monster was finally gone! Or so they thought...

Angry and humiliated, the monster fashioned a mask of iron and wood, creating a startling face that would penetrate the soul.

So back the monster came, even more horrible than before! But when the monster returned to its cave, it took the king with it!

The hunter and the axe maker then tried their idea. They fashioned large cylinders out of wood, made to amplify a sound 10-fold!
