BRÂNDUȘA DE TOAMNĂ
(Colchicum autumnale)
It is a herbaceous, perennial plant, 10 to 13 centimeters tall, and grows in hay and wet pastures in mountainous regions. The sword-shaped leaves appear in spring and develop together with the capsule, which is large and many-seeded.
The autumn primrose makes a single flower, which appears directly from the bulb, because in the meantime the aerial stem dries up. In a field of plants, buttercup flowers stand out with extraordinary elegance, being colored from white to lilac-pink.
The fruit, about the size of a walnut, is poisonous, being considered a toxic plant, therefore a dangerous plant. For medicinal use, the seeds and the bulb are harvested, from which preparations with special applications are obtained, the most important and well-known being the tincture.

MONICA CÎRSTEA
ASTRAGALUS ROEMERI - COȘACII LUI ROMER
Astragalus roemeri is one of few endemic Astragalus species in the Romanian Flora. Since its discovery in 1891 from near Tulgheș at Mt. Piatra Roșie (Pietrele Roșii, Vereskő) by the botanist Julius Paul Römer, the species had for three-quarters of century been considered as an endemic of the Eastern Carpathians. Additional locations from where it was recorded in the Eastern Carpathians include Mt. Bicăjel (1050 m), Cupaș Valley in the Bicaz Canyon, Mt. Ghilcoș (1380 m), Glodului Hill near the village of Glodu, Gyüngyeményes stones (1412 m) near Bălan, Mt. Suhard (1350 m), Mt. Suhardul Mic (1126 m), and Ucigașului Ridge close to Lacul Roșu. All of these localities are broadly confined to the Hășmaș Mountains or ‘nearby’ (the locus classicus of the species is actually part of the Bistriţei (Grinţieşului). Astragalus roemeri grows in habitats with rocky limestone substrate, including woodland openings, gorges and screes in the montane zone (at the level of Fagus sylvatica ).

Fritillaria maleagris
Ilinca Georgiana
Fritillaria maleagris
The variegated tulip is a true treasure for Romania's flora. It is a flower protected by law. It can also be found in some wild areas in Turkey, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine or Bulgaria, but also in Nordic countries like Sweden. It prefers warm areas with sparse forests, river meadows, groves and the edge of areas with swamps or lakes. It needs partial shade, but also sun, coolness, high humidity and a permeable soil that retains moisture. This delicate flower has the appearance of a tulip, but its bell faces the ground. A single stem may have one flower or at most two, depending on the species. Colors can range from dark red, mauve and pink to cream and white. All varieties retain that checkerboard pattern at the base of the petals. Its scientific name is Fritillaria maleagris. Fritillaria comes from the Latin term fritillus and means dice box.

Rhododendron
Cercel Laura Mihaela
Rododendron
Myrtle or mountain peony (Rhododendron kotschyi Simonkai syn. Rh. myrtifolium) is a plant native to the Balkans. In Romania it is found in the Carpathians. It is part of the botanical genus Rhododendron, an extremely varied genus that includes different species that grow only at high altitude and extend from the Himalayas, the Caucasus, the Carpathians to the Alps and the Pyrenees Mountains. Smardar, as the mountain peony is popularly called, grows spontaneously in dwarf bushes in the alpine zone. Being a plant that grows in very specific climatic and relief conditions, it does not tolerate transplants, which makes it impossible to introduce it into gardens. The beauty of its flowers - which emit a smell and aroma similar to cherries - and which usually appear around the end of June and the beginning of July, and its rarity, mean that the sedum is protected by law. The sardine is perennial and keeps its green leaves all year round.

Leontopodium nivale, commonly called edelweiss, is a mountain flower belonging to the daisy or sunflower family Asteraceae. The plant prefers rocky limestone places at about 1,800–3,400 metres altitude. It is a non-toxic plant. Its leaves and flowers are covered with dense hairs, which appear to protect the plant from cold, aridity, and ultraviolet radiation.
It is a scarce, short-lived flower found in remote mountain areas and has been used as a symbol for alpinism, for rugged beauty and purity associated with the Alps and Carpathians.
In Romania it was declared a "monument of nature" in 1931. The Edelweiss day is celebrated on 5 March. According to folk tradition, giving this flower to a loved one is a promise of dedication.
