A Journey through the world of farming with abhay, a dedicated farmer who nurtures the land to feed the world
Abhay is a hardworking farmer from the village of Maharashtra. He has been farming for many years, growing crops that feed his family and the people in his town
Let's follow Abhay through his journey from planting seeds to harvesting crops

Hello, everyone ! Thank you for joining me before we begin, Let's Learn what crops are !
When plants of the same kind are cultivated at one place on a large scale, it is called a crop
For example, crop of wheat means that all the plants grown in a field are that of wheat
Now let's move on to understand different types of crops

Crops grow in different seasons based on temperature, humidity, and rainfall
Kharif Crops: These are sown in the rainy season (June–September). Examples: paddy, maize, soybean, groundnut, and cotton
Rabi Crops: These are grown in winter (October–March). Examples: wheat, gram, pea, mustard, and linseed
Pulses and vegetables are also grown in summer at many places

As you have understood what a crop is and its types, let's move on to the different methods I use to cultivate crops!"
Storage

Before planting crops, the soil must be prepared properly. One of the most important tasks is turning and loosening the soil. This helps roots grow deep and get enough air to breathe.
The first step in farming is preparing the soil! Loosening it helps roots grow strong and allows earthworms and microbes to improve soil quality.
Why do you think loosening the soil is so important for plants ?
Farmers use different tools to prepare the soil. These include ploughs, hoes, and cultivators.
I use a plough to turn the soil.
Some farmers use a hoe to remove weeds, while others use a tractor-driven cultivator to save time!
Before sowing, I check if my seeds are healthy. Did you know damaged seeds float in water?"
"I use a seed drill to sow seeds evenly. This helps them grow properly without overcrowding!"

Sowing is an important step in growing crops. Before sowing, farmers select high-quality seeds that give better yield. Damaged seeds are hollow and float on water, so this method helps separate good seeds from bad ones.
Farmers use different tools for sowing:

Plants need nutrients to grow well. But when crops are grown continuously, the soil loses these nutrients.
That’s why farmers add manure and fertilizers to replenish them.
To keep it fertile, I add manure or fertilizers. But what’s the difference between them?
Manure is made from decomposed plants and animal waste. It’s natural and improves soil texture!
Fertilizers are factory-made chemicals that give plants quick nutrients.
But excessive use can harm the soil and pollute water.
Manure, on the other hand: Improves soil texture, Increases water retention, Adds friendly microbes.
Farmers also use crop rotation—growing different crops alternately to maintain soil nutrients.
Fertilizers help crops grow fast, but too much can damage the soil. I prefer using manure and crop rotation to keep my farm healthy!
