“The fisherman and his wife” is a German fairy tale collected by the Grimm Brothers and it is about a fisherman who catches a magical fish, that can grant wishes.
It is about greed, always wanting more, and what happens when you push your luck too far.
We must be happy with what we have, or we may lose everything.
«The fisherman and his wife» είναι ένα γερμανικό παραμύθι, από τους αδερφούς Γκριμ και αφορά έναν ψαρά που πιάνει ένα μαγικό ψάρι, που μπορεί να εκπληρώσει ευχές.
Once upon a time, a poor fisherman and his wife lived in a small, old hut by the sea. Every day, the fisherman went to catch fish to have food to eat. One day, while fishing, he caught a big flounder. But to his surprise, the fish spoke!

"Please let me go!" said the flounder. "I am not an ordinary fish. I am a prince under a spell. I won't taste good to eat. Please put me back in the water."
The fisherman was kind and said, "If you can talk, I will not keep you." And he let the fish swim away.

That evening, he told his wife what had happened. She was not happy.
"You caught a magical fish, and you didn’t ask for anything in return?" she asked. "We live in this small, dirty hut. Go back and ask the fish for a little cottage!"
The fisherman didn’t want to, but he did as his wife asked. He went to the sea and called,
"Flounder, flounder in the sea
My wife has sent me back to you!"
The water changed color, and soon, the fish appeared. "What does she want?" the fish asked.
"My wife wishes for a nice little cottage," said the fisherman.
"Go home, she already has it." said the fish.

When the fisherman returned, their old hut was gone! Instead, a pretty cottage stood in its place, with a garden full of flowers and vegetables. His wife was happy—at first.

After a few days, she said,
"This cottage is too small. Go ask the fish for a
castle!"
The fisherman felt uneasy, but he went back to the sea. The water was darker
now. He called,
"Flounder, flounder in the sea,
My wife has sent me back to you!"
The fish appeared and asked,
''What does she want now?"
"My wife wants a big castle," the fisherman said nervously.
"Go home," said the fish. "She already has it.

When the fisherman got home, he couldn’t believe his eyes. The little cottage was now a huge stone castle, with servants, golden furniture and beautiful gardens. His wife was waiting for him, wearing fine clothes.
“This is wonderful” said the fisherman. “Now we have everything we need.”
But his wife was not satisfied. “I want more! I want to be queen. Go and tell the fish.”
The fisherman felt very uncomfortable. “Why do you want to be queen? A castle is enough.”
“Go now!” she demanded.
